Simpler is just a buzzword meaning that they are going to cut something out (like individual exemption). With today's software, taxes are a piece of cake, even with a few former complicated items. On top of that, I've read that the tax bill may be in excess of 1,000 pages. That sounds far from simple to me.
I think you and he are talking about two very different things when he says "they send you a bill"

marketplace has done a couple shows/podcasts on this. the IRS already knows everything on your tax return due to all the reporting that goes on. sending out a statement without tons of extra math and blank spaces on it would vastly improve the ability to comprehend what your taxes are. the only objections are from the tax prep industry and a few republicans who somehow think having the IRS send a bill out is putting the fox in charge of the henhouse. "do you really trust them to get the bill right?"

And now the president taking everyone through the details of the tax reform push:

as john oliver pointed out, these are the words of a man who has forgotten his anniversary.

In case it was not apparent, Trump doesn't really have a problem with repeatedly stating things that are in fact less than true.

Yeah, it's very obvious and his base 110% believes it all....but if Obama did something, T-Rump has a hard on for it and will either try to undo it or will try to do one bigger. It's really obvious to anyone watching.

Lol...the House bill will now only temporarily cut the corp rate to 20%.

Since they can't cause deficits past 10 years with reconciliation would mean they are way short on the payfors.

Wow...that's a big development. I have a feeling the market isn't going to like that if it passes. I suspect a permanent 20% rate has already been priced into the market at this point.

If Repubs can't do the dirty tax deed this year they'll need to wait until after the midterms. Next year they need to stress their highly emotional perma-issues to get people into that slightly irrational state that gets them the votes. The problem with talking about taxes is that it caused people to think & that's the last thing Repubs want in an election year.

If they don't get tax cuts for their donors then they'll be seen as poor performers worthy of primary challenge from the Right... And the guys at the top of it have plenty to spend to git 'er done....

So the Repubs tried to screw over their middle class constituents with their fake health care bill that was so blatantly obvious in favor of the wealthy at the expense of the middle class and their constituents stood by and stood behind their legislators, why I have absolutely no idea because that fake health care bill/big tax cut for the wealthy would have hurt them squarely in the pocketbook.

And now the exact same thing is happening with this fake tax reform bill that 99% of their legislators are lying about it worse than Trump as they are loudly proclaiming how it will be a "blessing" to the middle class when in fact every version they cough up will give the wealthy and corps a huge tax cut while giving the middle class a big fat middle finger and a few crumbs "for show".

And again, it seems like most of their working class constituents are A-OK with it. Are they all millionaires posing as working class folks or what?

I'd really like to know why they're all OK with being fvcked in the ass time and again by their legislators when it's so plainly obvious that this is exactly what their legislators are doing to them. Why would they rather believe the lies and screw themselves over than face the facts and do something to force their legislators to represent their interests and not those of the very wealthy who are a very small minority in their party?

It just plainly don't make any sense.

Bait & Switch? Couldn't be!
We now have what could arguably be the richest administration ever and they are working feverishly to preserve their own wealth while conning the public into believing that they're working on their behalf. Trump's base is undoubtedly heavily comprised of the least educated segment of our population so we cannot expect for them to comprehend the shenanigans occurring right under their noses.

Furthermore, most are church actors so they've been subjected to religious classical conditioning which also negatively affects their thinking. Trump could stand in front of my parents saying one thing while blatantly doing the exact opposite and they'd believe every word he says.

Republican leadership knows this and doesn't want them to get educated so they'll wake up and see the obvious before them and even then education might not be enough if they attend a religion based school that reinforces that thinking. These virgins without oil in their lamps are the pillars of the Republican party and will continue to be so.

I don't know what's up with this shit. I'm a Roman Catholic and I don't fall for BS in politics just because I go to church. Don't know what it's like down south, but in the northeast we think. I do have a BS + 30.

By golly, what a total surprise!

The lower and middle class rubes who voted for this clown are going to be real disappointed when this is all said and done.
