Corsair 520HX Powerful Enough?

I don't ever plan on running 2 video cards together in SLI or Crossfire.

Currently I have an E6600 (might get the Q6700 on July 22 though), 1 harddrive, 2 120mm case fans, 8800GTX, and a 16x DVD burner.

Is the 520HX enough to power this system, or will the 620w version be necessary?

I'd go with 620HX just to be on the safe side, however, 520HX will be fine too.

With a single video card the 520w unit is plenty. But if the price difference is not an issue AND you plan to add lots of HDs and other stuff in the future, get the 620w version. It offers a few extra cabling options in addition to the extra power.

Will the 24A@12v rail fall short or be any problem? Asked this in general hardware, but noone seems to know for sure.

The HX520 does 40a total on the 12v rail. You will have no problems with your proposed setup and this PSU.

Dude, even if he adds 3 HD's, 2 DVD burners, 5 more casefans 520W would still be plenty. He might even get away with a second gtx. 40 amps, jeez

I was just concerned about the PSU because there are 700 and 1000w PSUs out there, and I was wondering what in the world someone would need that much power for. I mean there are people who say that 500w is enough for dual graphics configurations even, so 620w+ to me just seems like overkill.

What kind of setup would you need to take advantage of a 620w + cpu?

I have a 620w PSU in my system. Specs in sig--I don't think it's too underpowered, since I have enough power to upscale the CPU and/or go SLI.

sli or cf are the most common reasons.

my rig in sig is comparable to your with some extra, like the pump and fan for water setup, 3x hdd and some overclocking. also going to q6600 after the cuts, adding another optical and 3 120 fans and i'm confident my seasonic m12 500w will handle it fine.

btw, a killawatt reading shows my consumption to be ~ 365w loaded but the ups also has an lcd, a modem, router, speakers, printer etc all plugged int it. when i move my case i'll get some readings with the pc alone.

edit- heh, no more rig in sig, gotta do that agin. rig-

All that equipment using only 365w? That's pretty sweet. Don't know what all the fuss is about powerful PSUs. I would rather get one with lower W but higher quality build.

I have a 7900gs now, and in the manual it says that it require a 500w psu. Currently the PSU I have is 400w, but my computer with the 7900gs runs fine as far as I can tell.
