Hi all,

I put a computer together a little while back and have been plagued with problem after problem. It-s now finally starting to take shape but I had a problem where running any hardcore 3D graphics would make the drivers crash.

I installed a lesser graphics card I have and everything worked fine. So I went out and bought another HD 5870 (I'm in a different country to where I bought the graphics card, so I'll return the old one if needed but I couldn't be bothered going back for now). Howe ver, upon installing I get exactly the same problems. Then I find this in my event viewer:

Could this be the cause of the problem, do I need a new PSU?

Have you tried updating or rolling back you GOU drivers? Assuming there are no porblems with the PSU it should offer plenty of power for your system. Unless you have the CPU highly OCed.

Everything is running at stock... will OC at some point but not will everything is working satisfactorily.

Only tried re-installing the same latest drivers for the GPU at the moment. but it-s 2 different 4870s and it fails on both

Well all 4870s are the same as far as the drivers go. You may want to roll it back to an older driver.

There error message you posted is from a power failyure not a PSU that is uder powering the system.

I'm running two ATI 5870's in crossfire mode. Which is powered by the corsair 750HX model which is basicly the same as yours. But my power supply is just the modular version of it.

If you are currently using the 10.6 ATI drivers. Few people are having issues with that version of drivers. Try installing the 10.5 drivers and see if the issue still happens. The newer 10.7 drivers are due out any day now.

Tried different drivers, including 10.7. Still having exactly the same problems. I really don't feel this is driver related. But I'm out of ideas.

Next thing I will try replacing PSU with spare PSU I have in the hopes maybe my PSU is just broken.
