CAS3 is normal for 1GB value sticks, isn't it? What would be the cheapest CAS 2 or 2.5 1GB sticks? I didn't look around, but noticed Monarch has
1GB sticks of Corsair TwinX 2.5-3-3-6 (on AMD) for $113. Is that worth the extra $34? Anything cheaper?
When the price of the Corsair 2 x 512 MB at Monarch was 79 shipped, this 1 GB DIMM was90 or 91.00 shipped. Now the 2 x 512 has gone uo to 87.00 shipped while this 1 GB DIMM has dropped to 79.00. Go figure.
I know the normal CAS on the 1 GB DIMMS seems to be CAS 3, but CAS 2.5 was always available, just quite a bit more expensive. These seem to be a good price because the cheapest 1 GB DIMMS at Newegg are 83.33 shipped. The cheapest CAS 2.5 at Newegg are Centons for 95.33 shipped. I don't know that I would trust Newegg 100% on the CAS ratings they list. Fry's and Newegg both listed Mushkin's 1GB (2 x 512 MB) Value Ram they've both been selling for between 85-100 as CAS 2.5
Newegg/Mushkin. If you go to Mushkin's website they show the specs as CAS 3
Mushkin's Specs. I think if you want to be absolutely sure on the memory timing specs, go to the mfgs website to be sure. Fry's also listed this same Mushkin as 2.5 CAS and I took it back for a refund a couple days ago. Notice the Mushkin part # 991145.
