I agree. For a full tower case, this will be in Silverstone and Lian li territory. I would expect all aluminium construction and excellent build quality for this price.

Nice looking case though.

Ain't gonna happen, unless you wait for year end rebates.

why would they sell at a loss? an 1 or 3mm thick aluminum box produced at huge quantities does NOT cost over $100 each to make

This is the 2nd thread on this I seen and I gotta say, I don't like the case. I'm not a fan of the blowholes or the front accessible HDD's. It just doesn't seem to be worth $250 to me either, maybe $180 or so but not $250.

If you own the factory and already own the tooling, then a 1mm thick case would be pretty cheap. A simple design may cost $50 in materials and labor while higher end units will cost more.

If you don't own the factory, tag on the profit for the owners of the factory. If you don't already have tooling, tag on $50-100k for tooling costs to amortize over the life of the case sales, which isn't chump change on expensive cases because volumes are lower. Or, you can use prototyping machines to avoid tooling costs, but per-unit costs go up. You then have your own profit, plus the retailer's profit. Whoops, you've just hit $200+ street price on higher end cases.

That's one of the reasons why so many cases on the market are based off existing designs. How many times do you see a case by some random brand and go "oh yeah, looks like that Chenming or CompuCase with a different face?" Existing design = no tooling and able to take advantage of volume manufacturing. the Corsair case looks to be designed from scratch. Kudos to them.

Oh yeah, you really don't want to use 3mm thick aluminum because that is WAY overkill and more difficult (read: expensive) to work with.

Looks nice. Looks like it will have room for a 3x120 up top and a 2x120 on the bottom. Could be a real competitor to the TJ's for nice custom water set-ups. Not cheap but if the build quality is there it would be worth it.

LOVE the all black, even inside and back panel, the price sucks and I think the window looks pretty shitty. For far less I can get an Aluminum Cosmos which I think looks far better. Everyone says aluminum cases are so much more expensive but the Cosmos S is the same price as the steel version *shrug*

You've got a case being designed for enthusiasts, not the normal consumer, so I'd expect a higher price. I cannot think of too many cases out there that provide as many features in one case as this one does.....all the hidden cable routing, the open heatsink area behind the motherboard, the ability to mount a tripe radiator without any modifications at all (an extremely rare feature....Mountain Mods provides this on some of their cases, too, but again, their cases are north of $150-$200), filtered intake air, etc.

As Redbeard, a Corsair rep, said on another forum in response to the case's high price:

Our first power supplies, the HX520 and HX620, launched 2.5 years ago to compete with the high-end modular products. (remember, 2.5 years ago 600W+ was high-end!) They sold at a premium and reviewed very well - we followed them up with the TX and VX series, which are very good values and still maintain the high build quality of the HX line.

So don't be surprised to see us eventually follow up the high-end products with more price-conscious stuff. I know there aren't many people who pay $200+ for a case, and those who do usually have one or two key features that they pay that money for.

I think we've done very well with our PSU line, especially for only being in the industry for about 30 months or so, and we have products from $50 to $250, 400W to 1000W.

2.5-3 years from now I'd like to show you guys a great lineup of cases that can meet the needs of everyone out there.

But this is the first one, and I'm listening to your feedback. The version in the images is a prototype, not the final version, and the final one will have a lot of changes, some of them based on feedback I gather from forums like this one.

So, while this is a high-end, expensive case, it's not surprising to see that type introduced initially for a company trying to break into a market, esp. one that's particularly saturated already. To be noticed and successful in such a market, one must be noticed and this, while pricey, will get Corsair noticed....again.

And remember, the pics shown are a tooling mockup, not the final product. RedBeard has already stated the case is slated for at least 25 changes already from what's being shown, and possibly will have additional changes made before a final production model is finalized upon.

In all, an excellent first foray into enthusiast case design.

Just to add to the echo... expected pricing is indeed too steep. Besides, i'm quite happy with cases in the <$100 range like my CM RC-690.
