- 2.5-3-3-8 Ratings
- Chips on module say "Value Select" (remarked)
- Official Description: "2x 512MB, DDR400, 64Mx64, Non-ECC, 184 DIMM, unbuffered, CAS2.5, 32Mx8 DRAMs "

OVERCLOCKING SUMMARY

- Older versions provided pretty limited overclocking, most users reported 215-218MHz
- Latest versions seem to overclock a LOT better:

From furballi:
Running Corsair VS 2 x 512MB @ 2.5-3-3-6-1T with ECS NF3 754/Sempron 3100. System is stable up to 243MHz at default Vdimm. Sticks were assembled in Taiwain. Chips have Corsair logo.

All modules were purchased from Fry's. Last year's batches were not great...only about 217 to 220MHz.

From Moltnrok:
Been tossing around the idea of getting some high performance memory, but with these prices, it's hard to pull the trigger on the more expensive stuff. I've already got a gig of this in Opty 165 machine doing 260mhz at 2.5-3-3-8....it would probably be smarter to just get a 2nd gb.

Personal Note: I'm running this RAM on an nForce2 Ultra and an i865 chipset, NO ISSUES. Runs at CAS2 on my nForce system @ 2.6V @ DDR 400MHz (200 fsb) with a single 512MB module. Recently I put in the matching module to take this system to 1GB in DC mode (it's cheap, lol) and my BIOS automatically moved the ram to CAS 2.5. Left it there for now, system runs quite nice. Also running on an Intel 865 mobo, runs perfect!

ARCHIVE LINK: SysOpt Review of Corsair Value Ram

If anyone knows of any tests on this ram, please link me up so I can add a new link here. the sysopt review appears to have been taken down. As I recall, they basically overclocked the ram to about 215MHz.

Anyone know what the actual memory chips are used on these memory modules?

Corsair uses the old OCZ trick, they say "Corsair Value". Added to OP.

Whatever chips these are...apparently people don't have very good luck getting them to cas2, although I think a FEW have done it at stock mhz. But if you want to OC and go to cas 2 at the same time it's not gonna happen unless you're really lucky.
But these are more compatible than the Kingmax modules apparently, or at least have better QC

I wouldn't consider it a trick like OCZ was doing in their infamous days......Corsair has been around MUCH longer than OCZ ever thought about, and their VS RAM is indeed good stuff...no trick involved.

apparently people don't have very good luck getting them to cas2

Good God......it's called VALUE RAM! If you want CAS 2 and nice overclocking ability, buy the Corsair XMS series. Of course, you'll pay as much for one stick of 512MB XMS as you're paying for this 1GB of VS. This RAM isn't intended for overclocking, just to be put into systems that're running at stock speeds.

I'm still kicking myself for buying this exact same ram for $100+ a few weeks ago. Oh well I guess I could use 2gb

You're kicking yourself? I paid $150 back in december. If I knew ram prices were gonna plummet I would have held off a few months.

Also at MonarchComputer for $92 at the time of this post, free shipping.

Might be a better deal for those of us in CA that have to pay tax at Newegg/Chiefvalue/ZZF.

Anyone know why mine won't do 2.5-3-3-8 at 1T with 4 DIMMS on nForce4? It will only boot at 2T...

Probably b/c it's 4 DIMMS. Once you start filling more than 2 slots a lot of MoBo's get sloppy about RAM timings.
