i would.
1)newegg will probably go up, has best customer service and packaging. and probably best shipping.
2)this ram isnt gonna go below $70 anytime soon, im pretty sure. $5-10 really isnt enough to sqabble about in the long run. Get it if you need it or if its good for near-future upgrades (which is my case)

I think prices will keep falling until at least 1/2 of all the new motherboards/systems use ddr2.

You're gonna let $2 stop you?

I was stoked when I got my gig of this excellent RAM for $104 delivered. Still waiting for $50 to get a second gig.

Yeah, sounds ridiculous doesn't it? Over 2 bucks. I guess the reason I haven't pulled the string on this one is I really wanted to get a 1 GB module. I only have 2 slots on my A64 motherboard and I can't mix the modules very easily. The A64 controller is very picky. I put a Kingston PC3200 512 MB DIMM (CAS 3), in the motherboard with my current DIMM, (which is CAS 2.5), a while back and it wouldn't get past the first post. I need to get two DIMMs with the same chips, like this Corsair deal, or get a decent 1 GB DIMM and hope it works with current one. In the worst case if I buy a 1GB DIMM and the two DIMMs don't work together, I still have 1GB for my A64 and the current PC3200 goes in another computer. That way I still have a slot available to go to 2 GB later on. Best case is I have my board with 1.5 GB.

Monarch went up 6.00 to 87.00 shipped! That's big rise.

Would it be worthwhile to spend the extra $7 on Crucial, or pick up the Wintec for a little cheaper that some reviewrs have said can hit 240mhz?

(sorry for the newb question here)

Is it possible to run DDR2 memory on a A64 DDR system, just to run it in DDR mode? Monarch has 1GB kits of OCZ PC2-4200 for $91, and I'd happily spend an extra $20 to future-proof my RAM purchase until AMD comes along with DDR2 mobo's.

It's not possible to run DDR2 in a DDR slot. DDR2 has 240 pins and DDR has 184 pins.

The difference between Crucial and Wintec might be negligible. Both are CAS 3 rated. Price difference at Newegg looks like 34.50 to 38.99, although you're right, one guy claimed 245 MHz at CAS 3 for the Crucial.

If you're going to OC an A64, I've read you need decent memory as the A64 controllers are a bit finicky. I have an A64 3200+ with a 512 DIMM of some CAS 2.5 PC3200 that runs great (Legacy brand I think). I bought another 512 MB DIMM of KIngston PC3200 and it wouldn't even boot. Try to get both DIMMS of the same memory brand and chips if you can. If I had a choice between just Wintec and Crucial, I would pick Crucial. It's always been solid stuff in my experience.

Anyone know of similar deals with DDR2 ram? How much more are DDR2 dimms? ~30-40%.

Got in @ 77.90 ZZF a few days ago. Have the memory installed running Dual Channel on an Abit NF7S-2.0 @ 220MHz stock timings.

Better than I expected! Haven't tried higher FSB, but it absolutely will not do faster timings, even @ 200. That's OK. 220 stock feels faster than 200 aggressive. Going to keep going up on the FSB and find the top.

Didn't get it for a super overclock, just looking for what it can do. Darn nice memory for the money!

argh. hopefully this is not a trend and it's just the retailers making sure that they offset the deals that people have been taking advantage of in the past 1-2 weeks.

NICE! Please keep us posted as to your maximum OC on these. I take it you didn't try increasing the voltage?
