So multiple people are telling me this ram doesn't perform what it advertises.

So I have cold boot issues and this ram truly is not performing.

Situation: I bought a 8gb dual channel pair a week ago, I wanted to upgrade my 8gb to 16gb

problem is if I return it I still have 2x4GB that i bought 4months ago. However I would get 74.99 back from this set.

Selling the other ram would not work because I cant wait weeks for someone in fs/t to want to buy them when I need the ram yesterday

Running 2 different rams is going to cause a major mehhhh isnt it? If I did return it , what would you guys recommned

im now scared of any pc15000 ram as corsair ruined it for me selling me "1866" ram that doesnt even outperform the 1600

Its your motherboard not the RAM .

When you buy a pos motherboard like MSI ,,,,,,,, this is what you get for trying to save a few dollars. Get a real mobo so that poor CPU can perform up to par. gl

Good, be scared of 1866, it's a "stupid" speed.

Any decent 1600 will overclock to at least 1866 anyways, you're not saving anything by buying 1866... you're paying an exta $30 or whatever for something that takes a minute of settings changes.

If you're going to go big, go silly big, like 2400, then run it at 2200.

I bought almost the cheapest RAM there was that wasn't obnoxious looking, and matched my colors... almost no consideration to specs, or reviews.

Patriot Viper 3 1600, 8GB... $38.99... will do 2200... why would I pay $130 for 2133?

do you like the g skill sniper rams? i dont know if i should buy corsair ever again, not that kts a bad ram but that im pissed about it..... whats your top 3 fav?

i know i can only return the 8gb so im still stuck with 8gb its a bad idea to use corsair + gdkill or another both in dual channel right?
i assume the diff timings and voltage will mess with it? ill have 74.99 from 8gb and im going to end up wanting a full 16gb of one kind

damn, wish i saw your post before i newegg'd this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231628

xD hopefully this cas7 trident x smashes the corsairs i had that were incompatible with mobo. seems my mobo supports 1866OC'd but doesnt look like it likes the pc15000 ram itself :S

and for the price i paid for corsair vengeance, this trident x is about 10$ more and im getting so anxious for this to come already -_- if they were in store i'd overpay but the store i bought from is complete

$125 for a pair of 2x8GB 1600 with tall heat sinks that interfere with CPU coolers? What could possibly have made you think "hey this is a good idea!".

Return it and buy the Crucial kit. It is better in every way.

what kind of cpu cooler do you use? i use water cooling , no ram i buy intereferes with my water cooling kit

so you think im a moron because i bought ram with "big heatsinks" and think thats why i bought it, (imagine if i thought you were a moron for thinking i actually bought it because of that)

Timing 7-8-8-24
• Cas Latency 7
• Voltage 1.5V
Trident X

Timing 9-9-9-24
• Cas Latency 9
• Voltage 1.35V
Crucial

sorry but i dont see where crucial competes with the trident as far as stock.. the 1.35v isnt enough to make a claim, im not going to oc the ram im basically going to run it stock

Also, while i appreciate your opinion, i asked for advice before i bought something, obviously i went ahead and bought something, you have serious issues if you think im going to return something i bought from newegg because some kid on anandtech didnt approve my purchase and couldnt understand why i bought it in the first place.

so yeah. thanks bud

Edit- oh yeah, i forgot to mention thank you for telling me to buy ram that is unsupported in the Motherboard's manual can you imagine if i actually returned my ram to buy what you told me?
this is why i have a hard time here, people expect you to do what they say but when you ask for some statistics or facts they troll you because they try to put their grain of salt opinion to a college educated analysis of the situation

im not sure what to do.... buy low end ram and OC it? or buy regular good ram and run it stock speeds

i really dont know what to do, so is it possible to make that samsung hit cas 9

can http://redirect.anandtech.com/r?url... uct.aspx?Item=N82E16820231628&user=u00000687 overclock to beat the trident speeds?

Timing 7-8-8-24
• Cas Latency 7
• Voltage 1.5V
Trident X

Timing 9-9-9-24
• Cas Latency 9
• Voltage 1.35V
Crucial

Timing 11-11-11-28
• Cas Latency 11
• Voltage 1.35V
Samsung

wish samsung had a 2x8gb kit :/

can either of the samsung or crucial OC to beat the gskill @ its timings?

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Electr...amsung+pc12800
i'd still have to buy 4x4gb's which would be using 4 slots instead of 2 and it would come out to 120$ vs 130$ that i spent :/

im going to get off the pc for a bit, thanks for the help guys, i dont know if i want to cancel my order seeing as it might have already shipped. yes i chose rush processing .... ive read a few forums nad im seeing for people to hit speeds similar to the Trident X i bought they are using 1.65v which makes me wonder if buying cheap ram to oc is even worth it

all opinions help me, please post any links or solid oc sites/facts that might completely change my mind

What specific problems are you having? And, are you on an AMD system? If you are on an AMD system, 1600 is probably the max mem frequency you need to aim for. Anything past that is unstable for most users.

i7 2600k @ 4.5GHz v1.320 (v1.335bios) // MSI Z77A-G45

EDIT: I see you are on an Intel system. Here's a quick test that will likely tell you if you are having issues with the memory. Clear your BIOS and reset the system using the XMP setting. If your memory controller is capable of running 1866, then you should be stable at these settings.

What is likely here is that your CPU can OC to your 4.5GHz setting OR it can run at XMP/1866. But, it may not be able to do both at the same time.

hey thanks for the help man

yeah i already figured out the memory i bought isnt supported by the mobo, it supports 1866OC but not 1866 stock pre-oc maybe? its not on the tested and approved list so i just bought some boss gskill ram that im going to try out

didnt want to really OC the crucial memory the guy above mentioned because i cant hit the speeds of the gskill at 1.5 OC'd on the crucial.

Bumped into this in another thread, so I'll just leave this here. (original is in Korean).

In short: finding RAM that overclocks well, is better than worrying about timings because the typical 5 timings don't really affect anything anymore.

I'm not really keeping track of prices here, but the Crucial was probably the better buy if it was cheaper.

Regarding a question you asked awhile ago... I don't really like any Corsair "hardware"... RAM, Coolers, PSU, SSD... I love some of the ideas they put into their cases, don't like any of the cases themselves. I like the look of some of their fans, wouldn't bother buying any.

I have no real reasons for this...lol, it's just one of those cosmic mis-alignments, I don't buy things unless there is some sort of inherent trust about it... I don't get that from Corsair.

I have the above Samsung memory in a rig and did some testing yesterday and overnight. Basic rig with a z77ma-g45/i3-3225 using the HD4000 video. Motherboard has very little settings for memory voltage (auto)(1.35)(1.50)(1.65) which kinda sucks!

To match the Trident X's settings I had to bump the voltage to 1.48v's and did some quick testing. Seemed like it would be stable but voltage bump seemed huge to achieve it. Figured voltage bump not worth the 1600 @ c7

Did some overnight memory testing with HCI memtest with what I think I'm gonna be running.

1866MHz @ 9-9-9-27 which requires 1.32v's

Kinda fell asleep and forgot to shut down HCI memtest....This AM it was at 1500% plus with zero errors. Used 4 instances devided by all available ram for the test.

Might try and see if I can tighten the settings up a little more.

2133MHz is doable with 1.48v's but probably not worth it anyways.

thats a sick boost for the ram

yeah i was reading some other forums, dozens of threads and saw alot of people talk about how their ram died from OC'ing seems crucial was dying more than samsung, and im not sure about rmas on ram or warranty so thats why i didnt want to buy ram to OC =D

gl with your oc!

I went for bang for buck as I only needed 8gb's anyways. Figured for $35 shipped it was the best deal at the time. Great reviews and lots of overclocking potential.

I'm not worried about the ram burning out. It's rated at 1.35v's or 1.50v's (per packaging) which means it should last. I don't think messing with timings does much more than causing instability....Could be wrong tho.

definately a deal, and definately good for people who know how to boos their hardware

i dont think that ram can outperform the trident x at 1.5 though i noticed alot of people try to hate on anything you buy and when you buy the best they say oh you could of bought this crappy stuff and oc'd

(not saying this about you, just saying it in general)

i buy a 2600k and they say its trash then i say i bought the 1200$ cpu and the ysay oh the 2600k could overclock it and beat it lol
