I just got my MSI K7D Master L board today. I bought it as a combo with 1700+ and 512mb Samsung ECC Reg'd ram. Anyway, it works great.

However, I put my old 256mb Corsair XMS PC2700 non-ecc ram in and it didn't work. I thought this board is suppose to be able to run non-ecc ram in the first 2 banks? If I put the corsair ram in, it just has long beeps. beeeeeeeeeeep..... pause..... beeeeeeeeeeeep..... pause.... etc....

Anyone running Corsair XMS PC2700 non-ecc ram in their K7D? Or anyone have a similiar problem like mine? How did you fix it (other than buying new ram)?

BTW, I don't want to run ECC ram cause it cost too much and I NEVER plan on using more than 512mb with this board anyway. This is just my workstation I use for video editing, games, etc, not a server.... ECC is almost twice the price....

AND, I want to use PC2700 ram so I can overclock this to 150fsb at cas 2 and not worry if the ram can handle it... I know my new 1600+ AGOIA cores can handle it....

You think you are going to get 150Mhz out of a 760MPX board Goodluck, most can only get 3-9 Mhz over stock.

Also have you checked to make sure you have the newwest Bios, and also check to see if MSI put in support for Non-Reg Ram, some did some didn't.

Also you can get a 256mg slab of Crucial Reg. ECC ram for around 76shipped. I am running 3 slabs in my 760MPX board.

And it sounds like that ram will not work. I tried a regualr Non-Reg. ECC ram and got the same result. So get some Reg. ECC ram, and don't even thing you are going to do some crazy overclock, the 760MPX boards don't support enough voltage mods to allow it.

I figured it out... My corsair non-ecc works now... Just had to do a lil bios changing....

And about the overclocking..... I'm sorry.... You are sadly mistaken. I am actually running the board at 150FSB rite now... I only have 1700+ in here so that's 11x150 = 1650mhz.... But my incoming AGOIA 1600+ chips once unlocked should be able to do 1750mhz-1800mhz...

If you ask around on the overclockers forum or the 2cpu forum, MANY people with the msi k7d master board run their setup at 144-150fsb completely stable....

I have only been running prime 95 for a few hours, but no errors yet.... nor do I think there will be.....

Did you have the ECC checking set to ON in the Bios?

Also most people I see say 142-144 is where they can get there MSI. Yes there may be some that can get 150 but it depends on what you have in the Pci slots also.

BUT for most that run a full array and even maybe a 64bit/66Mhz card 3-9 is the AVERAGE. But take all the pci cards out(or most) and yes SOME may hit a lot higher.

Tr0LL : What did u change in the BIOS to make it work? My K7D-L is coming in next week and I intent to run Corsair XMS2700 on it too. I am also using 2 unlocked XP1600+ I hope to get a nice overclock out of them but I am running a 64bit/66mhz SCSI card.....

No, I turn ECC off. Corsair XMS memory is non-ecc so of course it must be off.

I actually am using most of the pci slots. The only problem at 150FSB which is common with everyone is the onboard USB tends to be a little flakey at that FSB. All my PCI cards are fine. I run an Audigy and a TV capture card in the 64bit/66mhz slots.... Then in the other 2, I run the pci 2.0 card and a fasttrak100 raid card.
