Even if she could afford and bought a 2k Gucci bag, who cares? How would that make her a liar? She's paying her taxes, she's advocating for higher taxes that she would pay as well.

Well based on the OP's "logic" no one who has ever eaten in a nice restaurant can advocate for the hungry, no one has ever lived anywhere but a box on the street can advocate for the homeless, no one who has ever had good medical care can advocate for the uninsured. etc.

Every apartment in NW DC is a “luxury” apartment these days. My wife and I used to pay $2800/month for a 1 bedroom + den and parking...and we lived across the river in Rosslyn. This was back in 2012.

Used to rent a room back in 2004-5 for $500 a month. Got an apartment with friends, 3 of us, studio apartment, it was about $1500-1700 bucks. Life in DC is not cheap at all.

This is part of the attempt to demonize AOC by making it impossible for her to find the "right" balance that reflects her new position while matching her working-class background.

She gets attacked for being unable to afford a place in DC until she takes office; she gets attacked for staying in anything better than average, even if she actually needs to do it. She can't wear nice clothes, but she also wouldn't be allowed to wear something frugal, either.
