NYC got a taste of progress recently.
Here I agree with you. OAC certainly isn't a perfect politician. I think she is right to try to shut down the special deals cities make to try to attract corporations (I don't see how it is legal for certain companies to get preferential treatment), however the idea that they are better off without Amazon having their second headquarters there is ridiculous. Instead, the city should have been focusing on zoning to create affordable housing and bring in the good paying jobs.

Is a billionaire advocating for the poor a hypocrite because they themselves are wealthy?

Not even remotely. In fact, IMO the more people achieve the more they should help those less fortunate, and advocate for others to do the same. There is zero hypocrisy in using your own success to help those who need it.
And just imagine how our taxes might go down if people did the right thing on their own rather than government having to step in and do what people should be doing, but don't or won't.

Funny because she had no involvement with the Amazon deal. But thanks for reminding us that she's at the front of your nightly foaming rage sessions.
Not only that, but I suspect that our fellow posters from rural Ohio and the Louisiana bayou are possibly incapable of understanding that over-employment can be a legitimate economic problem.

It makes little sense that you would say this considering conservative areas would kill to be even remotely as successful as NYC.

So while I disagreed with the whole amazon nonsense you guys should generally be taking notes on how to be competitive from NYC.

I guess that's the sweet spot for billionaires - talk about helping the "less fortunate" and how you support Democrats so you don't get grief from folks like AOC or @Jhhnn but sleep tight knowing you won't need to pay the taxes they claim to want to impose. Sure your marginal tax rate may fluctuate a few points over the years (from 36% to 39% and back again) but by no means do you actually volunteer to actually hire people or donate substantial amounts of your fortune to helping people directly. They know the game is to say "sure I'm willing to pay higher taxes" but everyone winks and knows that's a lie, it's just about virtue signalling for "team progressive" to satisfy the rubes.

This thread is nothing more than part of the titanic and multi billion dollar class warfare effort the 1% and their minions will wage against any person who will show any political promise in taking that war back to them. She is dangerous to the widening gap between the haves and the have nots and the haves will not have that.

How impressive. You've slapped a shinny new name on a piece of ancient bull shit. We hold these truths to be self evident.................that the function of government is....................that we change it when it is not...............

There was a time when Americans would have come for you muskets blazing.

This is your brain on right wing nut job paranoia. Any questions?

Your ridiculous comment here, glenn, willfully overlooked 2 important things. First, the 2nd paragraph of my post you quoted, where I advocated for more voluntary generosity as a means to keep taxes down. And second, the fact that "team progressive" billionaires are more likely to be self-made and more likely to be actively engaged in philanthropic activities than conservative "team regressive" billionaires.
But of course you overlook that with usual canned idiocy.

That’s the whole fucking point, if I pay 33% of my income in taxes, why should a 50 million plus earner pay less than that....
Regarding donations you are making enormous assumptions.
