I guess that's the sweet spot for billionaires - talk about helping the "less fortunate" and how you support Democrats so you don't get grief from folks like AOC or @Jhhnn but sleep tight knowing you won't need to pay the taxes they claim to want to impose. Sure your marginal tax rate may fluctuate a few points over the years (from 36% to 39% and back again) but by no means do you actually volunteer to actually hire people or donate substantial amounts of your fortune to helping people directly. They know the game is to say "sure I'm willing to pay higher taxes" but everyone winks and knows that's a lie, it's just about virtue signalling for "team progressive" to satisfy the rubes.

The argument isn't that billionaires shouldn't exist.

The argument is that currently much of US policy is written to advance the fortunes of current billionaires even further at the expense of non-billionaires.

Billionaires exist in the UK, France, Spain, etc. Yet somehow they still have nationalized healthcare systems.

Republican playbook

A. Label AOC as evil
B. Label all Democrats as AOC
C. Goto A.

She didn't help the situation. I like how she claimed working conditions are poor without knowing anything about Amazon's working conditions.

Let the reward fit her performance. That's 41 jobs she cost New York per sq. foot so far.

I suggest you worry about jobs in your flyover state. I live in NYC and believe me, the only people really crying about this are people like you that don't even live here lol. We are not worried.

BTW: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Job_Creators_Network

"The Job Creators Network (JCN) is an advocacy group founded by Home Depot co-founder and former CEO Bernie Marcus.[1] It is funded mainly by corporate executives and conservative foundations including the Mercer Family Foundation, and has been extensively promoted by far-right website Breitbart.[2] It describes its agenda as to promote small businesses and has been described as leaning conservative.[3]
Alfredo Ortiz, a former Pepsi and Kraft executive, was named president and CEO of JCN in January 2014.[4]"

So you and some right wing propaganda group are worried about jobs in a liberal city? Right...

Not even remotely. In fact, IMO the more people achieve the more they should help those less fortunate, and advocate for others to do the same. There is zero hypocrisy in using your own success to help those who need it.
And just imagine how our taxes might go down if people did the right thing on their own rather than government having to step in and do what people should be doing, but don't or won't.

I don't entirely agree. On the whole politics just makes more sense to me when it involves people arguing for the interests of the group they are a part of. It's disconcerting to me when 'the left' ends up over-populated with wealthy people.

Likewise when right-wingers advocate for the interests of the wealthy and big business that seems as it should be - that's what they are _supposed_ to do. Those are their people, they know what they want. Politics makes sense then, everyone knows where they stand.

I agree 'hypocrisy' is entirely the wrong concept for a wealthy person having a conscience. But people are better qualified to speak for a group if they are themselves a part of it and understand directly what its interests are.

Same logic explains why that Onion article about 'man finally put in charge of struggling feminist movement' is funny.

But I don't see that as being particularly relevant in this instance. AOC doesn't appear to me to be from some super-privileged background, with the politics that stem from that - she just has the income you get by being reasonably (formally) educated, and successful in national politics in the US. Time will tell what that does to her in the long term. (Capitalism's most cunning defence-mechanism is to make its most articulate critics wealthy! Gotta respect it for that)

If amazon had stayed, you think there wouldn't be a sign in NYC saying something just the opposite? "Thanks AOC for Amazon and pollution and congestion and rising housing prices and global warming". The reality is she had very little to do with any of that anyway.

Seems to me that the people who lived in the area weren’t compensated other that someone who owns property being compensated with higher home value, which can be bad if you have no desire to sell.
This is what is supposed to happen in a deal. Everyone gets something, if anyone is ignored the deal falls apart

Not to mention we know how these deals usually go, the companies make a bunch of promises, deliver maybe half of what they promised and walk away with the city's money.

Look at that, righties trying to push for job creation and lefties actively stiffing that and defending the practice.

No, they are showing the conservative AOC Derangement Syndrome. If they were actually interested in the situation they would have blamed the people actually responsible.

You guys are seriously losing it with this lady. It’s not healthy.

You are really feebleminded. Let me explain this to you, the Job Creators Network is funded by CEO's who want these deals to go through because these deals are great for CEO's and the companies they run. Free money for them!

By 'job creation,' you mean governments paying employers to hire people. I know you believe that's capitalism, but everyone else knows it's the real socialism.

Like the manufactured racism in there. Trump made a fair compromise offer, the Democrats shot it down. Luckily Trump is enabled by the constitution to go around the obstructionists in the case of an emergency.

Hahaha fair compromise something permanent for something temporary. I’ll ask again
I’ll send you $30 right now and all you have to agree to is send me $1 per week forever. That’s a great deal you should jump on it.

So what exactly did AOC do that caused Amazon to leave? Or is this your usual bullshit?

From what I've read she was not involved in the process.

"Luxury apartment" just means that instead of blasting their stereos late into the night, the neighbors blast their home theater systems late into the night.

I didn't realize it was possible, but I think over the last month SS has managed to go even further off the deep end.
