Costco: 26" LCD/HDTV + DirecTV combo

Costco has been running a promotion to give $250 in discounts to customers purchasing both a new LCD (must be labeled HD?) and a new subscription to Direct TV satellite service.

What make it potentially a hot deal is that when Costco has an LCD on sale, such as this Westinghouse 26" LCD/HDTV for $279 then the $250 in discounts ($50 instant and $250 m.i.r.) can be used either to pay down the TV to a fraction of the regular price or to cover at least a few months of the DirecTV service.

I have not pulled the trigger on this yet, as the fine print on combining discounts probably needs further checking, and the DirecTV contract of up to 2 years is not attractive for me right now, but still worth a look for those seeking both parts of this deal.

Just an FYI, the rebates are given as Costco Cash Cards.

Also, the 46" Sceptre LCD seems like a great deal at $699.99.

Yeah, a repost, but it is over a month since any posts happened in that thread. And this adds a different & larger TV, and explains the DirecTV tie-in, which the earlier thread didn't clarify. (You had to go to their link then follow yet another link at Costco.com to even find out what the total deal was.) I thought it would be better to summarize the entire deal here.

Changed enough to make it a rather different, and arguably better deal, I think. As both the title and first post in this thread say, this is a combo deal -- best for people interested in both a new tv and DirecTV.

Be careful with the Direct TV contract! Read the fine print. the monthly discount only applies for the first year!!!

wonder if you can combine this with the $10 AAA member discount and the $50 referral bonus (for you and the person referring you ($50 each) paid at $10 a month for 5 months)?

Don't know if those would work as you need to call a special number to get the AAA discount (and this deal says you have to sign up through Costco) but maybe you can use the $50 referral bonus.


If you are a Qwest subscriber, you can get $5-17 off a month by bundling your billing with their service. You do this after you are a Directv member

Another message board on satellite TV deals says that customers of DirecTV can change packages once a month with no service charges for the change, but that might jeopardize your biggest discounts that come in the first year. So starting with month 13 you can, theoretically, drop to their lowest rate & package, or even just pay the prorated cancellation fee after you got the best part of the contract behind you. Sounds like that would defeat the purpose of subscribing in the first place, but apparently it is an option.

With so many people getting big screens and HDTVs in the last few months, and Dish Network struggling financially, DirectTV probably doesn't feel a lot of pressure to drop rates or loosen contract terms.
