I just ordered mine right now.

I talked to customer service in the costco down the street and they said that the return policy will be changing soon, after the new year begins. Act soon if you want to have Costco's superb warranty, they didn't know exactly how long you'd be able to return televisions but you'll probably be bound to the manufacturer's warranty very soon.

Costco has an implemented system with their manufacturers. Because they buy in such large bulk quantities, they have (with around 90%+ of their manufacturers) a return system where they themselves get reimbursed 100% of what they paid.

As someone who works for a larger electronics retailer, I don't believe that in the least. BS. That explanation is really lame. Especially after the warranty period is completed - the manufacturers have no reason to take back a bad product, nor does it benefit them at all. The economics of that claim just does not make sense. I can say for certain that one of the highest sources of losses in the retail electronics business are returned and defective products. I have and do work in services/repair for the past 5 years and I understand the back-end pretty well.

In the end Costco is paying for this in some way, probably in a big way. The benefit to Costco, however, is a solid customer loyalty - and that's money in the bank.

For those who fraudulently return products under this or any warranty you should think twice. Someone pays for this, and yes, its usually large monolithic companies but in the end that cost comes back to ALL of us in higher prices. Plus, its immoral and unethical and you should hang the guilt on yourself, its not okay.

dew.

I worked for BB for a few years and they way it worked for us was that as a company we had a certain amount of product (in dollars) that we could send back to the manufacturer for 100% credit. The amount was negotiated seperately for each manufacturer. If BB was out of credit for the manufacturer for the year, they would be a little more aggressive at the store level in not sending things back for the customer.

There is a thread over at AVSFORUM, I read it. Most the impressions of those who have it are very good.

I just ordered one.

I like the look and price on this set, but I need something bigger to replace my 40" Wega HD CRT. 37" bare minimum, 40/42" preferably, 50" hopefully

My first step into the world of HD, I'm psyched!

Just a reminder that HD TV's work nicely with the HD content only.
They also work well with the Non-HD digital sources like Dishnetwork or DirectTV.
The regular (analog) cable looks like crap though - much worse than on any old CRT TV.

Very true!

Analog looks like crap compared to tubes. But I'm still happy with this ah heck, I guess being so close to the screen you can see the grainy effect. A 32" tv for a 10x12 room is a lil too big for my liking.

Looks like it's gone! Can't see it on the Costco site as of today. Oh well, I'm really looking for a HD with 1920 * 1080, although not the Sceptre 42".

Yeah the deal expired today, but I've no idea when they pulled it from their site.

The tuner is a waste for me, so I went with an Olevia 332H instead (~$505 shipped).
For those who went with the BB Westy, watch out for issues with SD material due to the suppossedly faulty Xilleon chipset (just search AVSforums).

I don't get it.
Not all programs are HDTV on a station. For example, Dave Letterman show is HDTV on CBS but news is not. What then?
I was going to order this until I saw this post. Can you please explain?

SD (standard def) will not look as sharp on an HD tv as it would on a normal CRT. It is that way with ALL hd tv's. They are designed to optimize HD content and for whatever reason (I'm guessing the way it stretches SD to fit the resolutions) it makes those images look fuzzier than normal. IMO it is not unbearable like the way many people make it out to be, and the HD is definitely worth it. Current shows that are not HD look alright but it's the older shows that are shown that aren't as clear and most people seem to complain about. Obviously watching a show from 1990 isn't going to look as sharp as watching a show debuting today (HD or not)

It just arrived 10 minutes ago. I hooked it up to my computer. I only have dvi and my dvi/hdmi cable didn't arrive yet. So I used the dvi/vga adapter that came with my video card and a vga cable. I turned it on, selected vga, and bam - there was my desktop. It had already set itself to 1360x768.

This thing is huge! I'm used to a 20" 4:3 Dell LCD. I'm about 3.5 feet away from the screen. Text is very readable, but slightly fuzzy. If I get up real close the text looks more fuzzy. I'm going to do the microsoft clear type settings thing on their website again to see if that helps. I'll play with the settings on the TV as well. I'm curious to see if the dvi/hdmi cable improves the text.

I'll post later about gaming and movies.

It is back in stock, and the deal is good through today it seems. But note the new change:

"*Due to a high demand the estimated delivery time will be approximately 10 - 15 business days from the time of order."

We're still in a transitional period.
Very soon every station will transmit in HD only.

"Congress passed a law on February 1, 2006, setting a final deadline for the DTV transition of February 17, 2009.
Most television stations will continue broadcasting both analog and digital programming until February 17, 2009, when all analog broadcasting will stop.
Analog TVs receiving over-the-air programming will still work after that date, but owners of these TVs will need to buy converter boxes to change digital broadcasts into analog format."
