Not quite accurate.

Many people equate HDTV with the widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio. Of course, it's much more than that. Fox shows baseball games in the 16:9 format that look terrible because they are not captured with true HD cameras.

Just because stations will have to broadcast in Digital format doesn't necessarily mean they will be in 16:9 aspect ratio HDTV format. Of course, it makes sense for them to do so. But don't ever expect all programming to be in so-called HDTV (widescreen). Any station that airs re-runs from the 4:3 aspect days will show them in their native format, save for TNT-HD, which looks ridiculous most of the time when it stretches 4:3 to 16:9.

Not all programs are HDTV on a station. For example, Dave Letterman show is HDTV on CBS but news is not. What then?
I was going to order this until I saw this post. Can you please explain?

We're still in a transitional period.
Very soon every station will transmit in HD only.

"Congress passed a law on February 1, 2006, setting a final deadline for the DTV transition of February 17, 2009.
Most television stations will continue broadcasting both analog and digital programming until February 17, 2009, when all analog broadcasting will stop.
Analog TVs receiving over-the-air programming will still work after that date, but owners of these TVs will need to buy converter boxes to change digital broadcasts into analog format."
It's just digital TV not HD.

Tempting but no nearby Bestbuys have it in stock for me. 60 mile radius too.

Edit: It appears to have the "Xilleon video processing delivers crisp images" ati chipset. Its model # W3213 HD and I read that there are problems with that video chipset.

The only problems with the ATI Xilleon chipset is that it doesn't handle analog 480i very well. Other than that, it's pretty good. 1080i and 720p look amazing on the set, and I'm glad I got it.

Movies look fantastic on this Sceptre. Games are great too. I haven't noticed any ghosting. The only game that isn't so great on it is WoW because chat text is a bit fuzzy. I played with the settings on the TV and it has improved a little. I'm still waiting on my dvi/hdmi cable to see if that helps.

I have a stuck pixel near the center of the screen. It is stuck on green and I only see it against a dark background. I don't know if I can get used to it or not. Also, my remote doesn't work. Maybe the batteries it shipped with are no good.

'Guess I'll have to drop by BB and check out the Westy. 'Shame it lacks DVI, but for the price.... Any comment on the OTA reception and image quality from any Westy W3213 HD owners?? Thx!

Beautiful menu and all around bang/buck! 1080i looks best and I'm warming up to 1360x768 over d-sub.. (dvi-hdmi cable on the way..)
QAM works great - DVD through component not as great as i hoped..

Thinking of getting the costco 37" sceptre 1080p instead when it drops to $999 ($1200 now)

SD is rough during motion.. Much nicer on my 19" sony crt tv

Remote is great a little weak but nice features! Freeze button is cool
Info button is handy and has the return channel and special "-" button for
a channel such as 105-14

Very impressed

hey all i got my TV and it looks great but i am having one dilemma. I get an "out of range" error when trying to play DVD's through the ybbpg1 or ybbpg2 or whatever those modes are called. If the picture does come on its in an all red or all green color. Any ideas on what the problem might be?

HDMI/DVI cable doesn't work for me. It puts the refresh rate at 30 Hz and I can't change it. Oh well, the VGA cable works well enough.

Check your connections. It's easy to mix those three cables up.
Also try the S-video and see how it does.
I would suggest getting the upconverting DVD player with an HDMI output.
They are getting very cheap now.
The HDMI setup requires only one cable - it carries both video and audio signals.
BTW my RCA DRC257N upconverting player came with the HDMI cable included in the package.
I got it for less than $30 shipped on ebay. (open box)

Well!
What's the verdict?

Hopefully I'll have time to take some pics and write a n00b review this weekend.

After using it for almost 1 week, I'm really glad I got this

I spent an hour or so calibrating this Sceptre to try to get text looking sharp. It worked While still not as sharp as on my Dell FP, text now looks good enough to me. Interestingly enough, by calibrating exclusively for text, the look of games and movies are now greatly improved as well.

Please share. I too would like to hear your settings.

Besides settings, is it via DVI-HDMI @ 1360x768?

No 1:1 pixel mapping is there?
