I'm using a vga cable. I tried a dvi/hdmi cable but it set my refresh rate at 30 Hz and I was unable to change it. At some point I'll try the dvi/hdmi cable again and use ATI Tray Tools to override the refresh rate to see it that works.

Settings:

Clear type enabled and calibrated at Microsoft's site.
Brightness 64
Saturation 50
Contrast 62
Sharpness 50
RGB: R 35, G 30, B 33
Color temp normal
Backlight 2

Thanks Ranulf, my order got cancelled last time because I accidentally typed in the wrong CC number and they ran out of stock before I could reorder :-( Ordered one just now!

Any dead pixels?

Are you using the QAM tuner with analog cable, have an HD cable box or OTA antenna?

Did yours include a stand and screwdriver?

No dead pixels that are obvious. Gonna hook up my laptop eventually via the vga and run dead pixel buddy to be sure.

I guess I am using the QAM tuner with analog cable. I dont have digital cable or dss with a hd capable box, just analog cable from comcast. Long story short, I had digital cable but the box was crud and the picture was not much better than analog at the time, so I wasn't going to pay $60 or more a month for it.

The comcast signal has had a pretty crappy picture on my SD tv for awhile now and its better (certainly not as pronounced) on the new lcd but I often see lines/fuzzies/interference on channels 2-13. Its mostly a combination of the cabling in my apartment being bad, comcast, and a samsung sdtv that has cranky video inputs (sadly only 3 years old too). It took two scans and wire wiggling to get the "weak signals" pop up to go away. HDTV looks great though and shows how big a difference it can be.

Mine came with a stand and a magnetic philips screwdriver, packed in a white box with all the sceptre logo/tv picture/specs stuff on it. Some folks on the av forums have said they've gotten it double wrapped in a brown box. I posted more detail over there. Finish looks fine, no nicks or blemishes.

I have looked at that vizio 32'' in costco stores and was tempted but from what I've read I don't think its worth the extra cash for my needs. It looked decent though and they had it on component cables. I'd have been tempted to try it if the sceptre had shown up in bad shape.

Anyone notice substantial AV sync issues. I am probably more susceptible than most, but I just wanted to see if anyone else noticed it. Using my DVD through component it's not much of an issue but my Direct TV receiver through S-video and RCA's it is very noticeable.

snip...

As a friend once told me... when it comes to dead pixels, ignorance is bliss.
I found 3 stuck pixels on my TV, but only when I scanned from about ~2 inches away from the screen.

Oh no doubt. I'm not real motivated to test it since I can't see anything up close or at a distance. I've, knock on wood had good luck with dead pixels on lcd screens. My bad luck has just been screen nicks and horrid backlighting issues (damn samsung laptop screens...).

On sync issues, I've not noticed any but I've only run dvd on component and tv on regular coax cable. Well, that not true, the hdtv signals seem to be on a 1-3 sec. delay from the sd signals but thats not likely a tv issue.

I can guarantee you that I won't be specifically testing my LCD for dead pixels. If I don't notice it, it's not there! That's been the problem with my 10 year-old 27" CRT, every corner has a huge splotch color distortion, but since it's only distracting on certain programs, I haven't replaced it until now.

My LCD shipped last night from CA, and I'm in AZ, should be here soon!

Thank you very much OP.

I got mine wednesday. You can take my opinion with a grain of salt since I am upgrading from a 20+ yo 22 inch set with diagnal lines running through it, but I love this set. PQ looks great to me. I am not paying for digital cable, but for some reason I am picking up at least a dozen digital channels from comcast. My $35 Philips progressive scan dvd looks great (after I remembered to set it up in the dvd player's menu). SD looks great. VCR looks great. The only thing that could make me happier is if I got 37" for the same price.

PS: thanks for the settings.

PSS: anybody who looks for dead pixels they can't see during normal usage needs meds.

Has anyone else noticed a delay between audio and video?
Does this come with a remote?

I'm with you there. The picture quality on this set is quite good in HD and surprisingly with analog, though some channels are better then others. Sound is also surprisingly good with this set and it takes Sony remote codes

I'm a happy camper.

Hi,

This item is back in stock at costco.com.

I am new to HD, LCD and Costco and would appreciate help with the questions below:

(1) How does this Sceptre compare to the Protron at Sears? (Sears Protron
This was on sale last week "Moonlight Madness" for $549+tax and I got one of them. Should I return it and go with the Sceptre? (Protron specs at bottom of post)

(2) I am not a Costco member. There is one in my town, but it's about 20+ miles away. The BJ's warehouse is closer (1 mile away), where I am a member. Is this deal worth to go ahead and get a membership to Costco?

(3) Are costco.com and B&M memberships interchangeable? If I have one, can I use it on the other?

(4) This deal is only online, not available at the B&M, right?

(5) The Gold Star membership is $50 on the website. Is membership at the store the same price?

(6) Can I apply for membership online and place an order on the same day (i.e, without waiting for membership card to be mailed)? Or, is it better to go to the B&M to get the membership and then order online?

(7) I saw a reference to "lifetime warranty" on this product in one of the posts. Was that a reference to Costco's return policy advantages or is their really a lifetime warranty? (I know ... just had to ask still)

(8) The Protron has NTSC, ATSC tuners, but the Sceptre has QAM too. What is QAM tuner good for?

The Protron is still in box, since Sears has a 15% restocking fee on opened returns. I wanted to get some education on HD and LCD before I decided about it. Thanks for any info you can share.

Thank you!

Hi,

Thank you, RaGe420.

It's OOS now. It was in stock 20 minutes ago. Bummer!

Guess I will return the Protron and wait it out for this deal or a better one to come back.
