Now, the question is, has anyone ever used this for gaming. And if you have, how does it respond?

I have the 37", I wonder how much grief Costco would give me to trade up? The DVI->HDMI for PC works great on the 37" for 1920x1080@60Hz.

Edit: I called Costco, they said pack it up and return it and buy the new one online. I just have to check it my wall mount holds 80lbs, I think it hold 100+.

Let's not start this argument again. The short answer is that they'll give you no grief about it. It's written into their policy. The question you should ask is how much grief you'll give yourself by doing it. It's up to you to make the call.

does anyone know if the speakers attach to the side or bottom? (is the picture shown on costco.com with the speakers detached?)

Anyone know if this set actually takes a 1080p input? I know just about all the 1080p resolution screens so far have not had that as an acceptible input (I think only the first generation Sharp 45" LCD's could be "hacked" to work by removing the external video input dongle and directly connecting a DVI connection to the back of the panel, but Sharp got rid of the ability to do that in the next revision)....

Again, I mean, this is a simple question that none of the manufacturers want to answer, if you are advertizing the display as 1080p, then it should take that as an input...

Just to claify: Last day of sale is March 12.

I may get the Westinghouse 42" 1080p LVM-42W2 LCD though, since it has more 1080p inputs (2 DVI, 1 HDMI, 1 VGA) and it has better aesthetics. It costs about $500 more though.

Not to rain on your parade but the linked model has a native res of sub 1080P, 1366 x 768, listed under its features tab. You wouldn't be getting true 1080P picture, which the Sceptre 42" model offers according to specs listed at sceptre's page for the Sceptre X42GV.

According to Sceptre's page about the monitor, it accepts a "PC Input Max resolution 1920 x 1080 @ 60hz" which to me says that it can run a 1920x1080 DVI signal from a video card or any other source. The only thing that makes me worry is the page also says "PC VGA Max resolution 1920 x 1080 @ 60hz" which is open to interpretation - does it only accept 1920x1080 via the VGA 15-pin D-sub? Or DVI as well?

Soooo tempting....

Unless they changed something from the 37" version, it will accept 1920x1080 from BOTH DVI and VGA like the 37 does.

i've been keeping up with this tv as well as the westinghouse 42" 1080p on the avsforum.com threads.

both sets are true 1080p sets that accept 1080p through their inputs. The Sceptre includes an ATSC tuner, as well as a QAM tuner to pick up *unencrypted* cable channels without a cable box. It uses a media box for it's I/O, however it's very sparse on the HD inputs. In addition, it has no digital (sound) output.

The westinghouse can accept 1080p on the hdmi, 2x dvi, and vga port. It's considered a monitor so it has no ATSC tuner, which is what you would use if you want to get HD over the air for free w/ an antenna. The top 3 places to get the westinghouse are J & R, Crutchfield, and BestBuy.

There are user reviews of the westinghouse on avsforum and no user reviews of the Sceptre yet, because it just opened for ordering this past monday.

The digital out is ONLY on the V1 of the Sceptre 37, the tuner was changed in V2 (no digital out) and V2+ (no digital out but QAM capable). I will be done with my review of the 37" early next week, for those intrested, I can also include any requests you guys have.

not to say i wouldnt get this tv (and i've been following it awhile) but receiving hdtv and not having 5.1 sound sort of lowers the experience. the white glove shipping is truly a terrible thing here too.

if you're using a cable box you will get 5.1 from that. you just can't get 5.1 if you actually use the internal tuner hooked up straight from the wall or antenna.

Reminder that today March 12 is last day of sale. I ordered night before start of sale but as of yet no change of order status. Some folks at AVSforum getting anxious about not getting theirs shipped first.

For those of you who miss out, Costco has a Vizio (1024*768) 42" Plasma with built in HD, on sale starting March 20 for $1500. That's a drop in resolution but $500 cheaper than the Sceptre. My local Costco has only 4 in stock for the sale. Really don't like the gloss black finish border and the silver trim speakers and as mentioned at AVSforum, set seemed a bit washed out compared to the 50" Vizio and other displays. (The 2 in stock 50" Vizios were purchased while I was there.) Hopefully just poorly adjusted. Still I may get it and return next week for the $300 sale price adjustment.
