Just a general question that I come across with many hot deals that talks about COSTCO basically gives a LIFETTIME WARRANTY and LIFETIME RETURN policy on everything? Even without receipt? Is this true or hog wash?

you'll need a receipt, and box. but they don't have a time limit on returns. the customer rep told me they 'like' you to return electronic within 2 years, but you can return it later. only thing is the computer packages they sell, i think those are 6 month return period.

Costco is hands down the best about returning items. As stated, they only allow 6 months on computers now. It used to be virtually unlimited on those too (some people would return 2 or 3 year old computers just cause they were cheap asses and wanted an upgrade, which is probably why they changed the policy).

I suspect that that if you are a lifetime warranty regular ( basically an abuser of what is reasonable ) that they may find a reason to not honor the return.

free tire rotation is if you buy the tires from them first, it gets you free rotation, balance, and warranty

I returned a 4 year old 19" monitor that died on me. I didn't have the receipt, but I did have the box. They told me they don't typically return things that old (especially since it was discontinued), but that they would do it for me that time, and they gave me a store credit for the amount I originally paid. For what it's worth, it's the first and only time I've done that. If someone started to abuse the policy, I'm sure they'd note it on their membership profile.

The local Costco was happy to reprint the receipt for me for an item I purchased a year ago. I was then able to exchange it for a working item. I also went in to have my tires rotated (which came with my new car). I was ready to pay a reasonable price for the tire rotation but they told me that it was free whether I bought it there or not. They tried to get me to pay to have them balanced but I decided against it.

Oh BTW I didn't have the box or manual for the item I returned without a receipt and they didn't seem to have a problem with it either. Customer service at Costco is great.

Costco used to rotate or repair every member's tires for free regardless of where they were purchased, however as of Nov. 1st they will only rotate/repair tires that were purchased from them.

I returned a scanner that was 5 years old. I found the receipt when cleaning out my file cabinet... tried to return it in the store but was rejected by the assistant manager.
I called back a couple days later to speak to the manager and actually got the visiting regional manager.
She approved the return without hesitation...the look on the assistant managers face was classic when he handed me back $370 for a friggin scanner...

Costco's return policy is #1.. I'm amazed though that they allow some people to blatently abuse the policies.
6 month return policy on a computer is pretty damn generous.

That sucks. I just called my local Costco to confirm, and they said that they changed their policy this past August. Now, I don't think you can even pay to have these services performed at Costco if you didn't buy your tires from them.

Costco is pretty liberal abt their return policy...never returned anything more than a small pants I bought...my waist was getting bigger cuz of all the food I have been buying in there.

I remember seeing a middle age woman returning a 50% eaten birthday cake and I said WTF to my self...hope, Costco doesn't increase it's membership fee because of these crappy people abusing their return policy.

IIRC, it is a satisfaction guarantee. Maybe the cake tasted really bad, or had a foreign object in there. I don't see how this could be any worse than someone returning a more costly electronics item that is over a year old. The cake is far cheaper.

the reason (from what i've been told) that Costco can offer these generous policies is because of the deals they have with their suppliers. Costco has incredible moving power, and in return the companies allow them to return whatever, whenever, and Costco passes it on to you. They don't care what you're returning for the most part because they don't have to deal with it. It goes straight to the supplier.

I've seen some woman return coffee mugs with coffee still in them. she accidently spilled them on to the counter.

Costco beats everyone by 1 gillion miles on returns. if they carried even more computer stuff like frys they'd be godly.

Costco is awesome. They can offer this guarauntee because they could be making much more money, but they limit thier profit margin to 10% over cost (this is mandated corporate policy, and any manager whose store goes over 10% is in violation). The rest of their bulk discount savings is passed on to the customer, so the only thing that will result from abusing this policy is higher prices to the consumer at Costco, with the company making pretty much the same amount (maybe a little less due to slightly decreased sales volume).

In short, try not to abuse the policy, this is a great company, with great products at reasonable prices.

I agree. Don't abuse the policy. If you buy a tv and it lasts 6 years and breaks, just move on.

The one thing I hate about COSTCO is their limited hours of operation and closing of the gates 30 min before 9 or 6 pm.

What you guys think about the Executive card?Is it worth it?
They told me I can get 5% on purchases (except tobaco and gas) which
will make twice the anual charge of 50$.

As far as I know Costco has just the opposite deal with suppliers, zero returns. I know several places that buy all the returns and end of season merchandise, with contracts that cover as many as 125 stores. They used to have insanely great prices locally, but now a huge amount goes on ebay, and prices vary from no thanks to still pretty good (its all supply and demand, when they get loaded up with stuff its still insane).

Which card to get depends on how much you buy each year.

That's still policy usually tho, to get your tires balance and rotate, you have to buy the sets from them.

ALWAYS balance your tires when you rotate, it will save you TONS of mileage if the tires are properly balance.
