wife just got hired there. starting is 11.50, and EVERYONE that is hired now is considered parttime. 90 day probation, and from what employees say, less than half of the hired people dont have a job on day 91.

50 cent raise every 6 months(actually every x hours worked) guaranteed.

Yes, almost everyone that is hired is hired as a temp employee.
They evaluate how you work, and if you don't do a good job, you are dismissed after your 90 days are up. And then, they just don't call you back. It is like a try-out for employment.

Ignorance is bliss. You really should do some looking sometime. When was the last time an item went on sale at Costco? There are many products that are consistently more expensive at Costco.

Ignorance truely is bliss for people like you. I avoid Wal-Mart like the plague. And it all has to do with their business model and they way they treat employees. They may be technically cheaper than Target but not by enough to warrent giving that shit hole of a company my money.

ya, im not dissing it, just saying how it is. Im worried that my wife wont make it, cause she a tiny girl and they have her assisting cashiers and doing carts. Only hope is they approached her about marketing new stores opening since she has a background in it.

(she had a career, but hated it so shes going to nursing school and i told her costco would be a great part time job. she kinda hates me right now)

in my opinion costco paying a lot, and expects hard work. you never see costco employees standing around or on their phones. at least in front of house.

Now go to walmart and their employees are working maybe half the time, or at least at half speed.

they are both viable business options. 2 employees for the price of one, and the same amount of work is accomplished.

you apparently don't know how costco works if you think you don't pay a membership fee for access to shop there.

Get the gold membership and if you shop their regularly you should get a refund at the end of the year for more than the price paid. Thus making it free. So its you who apparently doesnt completely know how costco works.

Should look up facts before thinking you know them. Would save you some embarrassment.

My college MGMT class we had our final case study on Costco and not only do they pay you $40K to work in the store but the only way to get into corporate is by starting at a store. They are a firm believer in promoting throughout the rank and file.

and its really hard to get on. ive known several people who have been trying for years to get on at costco and have had no luck. im real curious on what it takes to get your foot in the door with them just as a floor associate.

I'd show up every day when they open the doors and give application and resume. Repeat everyday until get job or cops called. I'm serious.

Maybe Costco negotiated a special exclusivity deal with them?

I think I've read Costco pays 0% processing fees to Amex. Amex wanted access to Costco members so they offered this special deal to Costco. If you look at demographic of average Costco shopper, average income is like $80k a year.

I'm a big Costco fan and shareholder but I don't blindly only shop there. Costco is great for meat/dairy and produce but their prices are inline with Walmart, Sam's, Target, Trader Joe's, and Amazon. If I was shopping solely on price I would shop at Aldi.

You guys are arguing semantics. It's like buying something for $10 that has a $10 rebate. You still have to pay $10, and then after the rebate you make that money back. It becomes "free" after the fact.

As do I, for many of the same reasons. Guess that argument blew up right in your face.

I was never attacking Costco or defending Walmart, ever.

I believe Trader Joe's is another retailer that pays their employees well. I love shopping at that store more than Costco. Costco has good customer service. Trader Joe's is a grade higher and has excellent customer service.

Even with the coupon I still got a better deal at the local supermarket here. I know this for a fact because I had to buy a bunch of chicken for a tailgate at the Iowa Speedway this last weekend. Friend offered to take me to Costco and use the coupon but it didn't save a thing.

Yeah blindly shopping at only one store is never the best route. Luckily all the stores we go to are close to one another.

kind of a bad point. target redcard cost zero in annual fees, nothing to shop there and you get 5% back.

I've got a fuel saver card with the local supermarket chain. Gets me cents off a gallon of gas for certain items. Some are $0.10, some are $0.02. Just depends. Filled up on Friday and paid $0.41/gallon for gas with all the savings. The only real restriction is you have 30 days from getting each discount to use it.

Guarantee this saves me hundreds over anything Costco might be saving me, if anything.

You almost have to know someone who works there. That is how I was hired as a temp. They get stacks of applications every week. But, they try to promote from within, so you have to start at the bottom. The available jobs are posted in the break room, employees get first dibs at them. The only jobs that ever get past that, for outside people, are the lowest jobs. If there is a new Costco opening near you, you have a better chance of getting hired as an outsider. But, most of the positions are filled by people that already work at other stores and want to move up. So even at those stores, it is mostly the lower positions available.

Prices at MY Costco yesterday:

Soy milk (per quart price): $1.21 vs. $1.28 at the lowest prices grocery store around here, Winco
Dave's Killer Bread 2 pack: $6.99
2 gallons of 1% milk: $4.99
Unsalted butter: $1.78/lb vs. $2.49/lb ($2.49 is the price when it's on sale; always $1.79 at Costco)
Imitation crab: 4 lbs for $10.99
Quality oranges: $.68/lb
Boneless and skinless chicken thighs: $2.69/lb
Boneless and skinless chicken breasts: $3.19/lb
^ Foster's Farms brand. No added hormones, salt, additives, "flavor enhancers", etc.

On top of the lower prices, I get 1% back every year for grocery shopping at Costco, 0% back from Winco. I buy engine oil (Mobil 1) from Costco. For six quarts, it's $26.99 on sale (after instant rebate), then I get $5 more in rebates from Mobil per six quarts, but that rebate is valid from any retailer.

strangely my wife just went to the website and filled out an application and got a call THAT DAY for an interview. especially strange because she has no costco like experience at all.
