It isn't so much the loss of the Costco Amex as it is the forced Citi relationship. Wife and I have not seen anything, received anything regarding the changeover, nor have we been given the option to officially Opt-out. Our local Costco warehouse is as ignorant as we are and they are just as frustrated.
I have no issue with Costco moving to Visa and I would happily use one of my existing Visa accounts with Costco. I have other Amex accounts, too. But the way Costco has handled the situation in our eyes is extremely poor on judgement and not in this customer's benefit.
My rebate check from Costco is a tiny, tiny joke compared to my Amex rebate ($800-900 on a really slow/bad year). We'll just continue to use the Amex Blue Cash card we've had longer than the Costco Amex as it is free and cash back.
Just leaves a raw feeling with us. Might be on par with a mugging.
Every Costco has a banner sign with the Citi change over date. You should've received changeover update letter from Costco. There's also website you can visit with FAQ on the changes.
I really don't understand your complaint. You're getting Citi card with improved rewards. It's upgrade in pretty much every way compared to the Amex. My last Amex rebate check was ~$1,100. With the same usage, Citi rebate will be larger. And I will gain another $50k credit limit from Citi. That's win-win in my book.
I'm also expecting Amex to up their targeted new card rewards bonus offer to replace lost Costco Amex accounts. I just signed up for Amex gold card with 50,000 signup bonus after $1,000 purchase because I wanted better international travel card. That's easy free money. I'll get the platinum card when they offer 100k signup bonus.
He's complaining about Amex selling Citi their portfolio, which I've said before that your debt is sold by companies everyday.

When I tried using one of my other CC's at a Costco pump a few months ago it said it would only take the Amex Costco CC. I think maybe it said it would take a debit card but I don't do those.yeah, great timing for the 3% restaurants since citi forward is nerfing their 5% for restaurants.
there are 5% gas cards out there that I will use instead at the Costco pump.

CostCo gas currently will only take Amex CCs, CostCo branded or not.
And debit cards with a pin.
Benefits on this card look pretty good, may get it. Way better than Sams card
Another part of that is Costco doesn't put their stores in crappy areas.

You never seen the Business Costco in Phoenix then. Not exactly a good area by any stretch of the imagination.
Just curious, why don't you use debit cards?
Well, I discovered some interesting things. First, while I love using uBlock in Firefox and Chrome for some odd reason if you click on Contact Us while logged into AE's website it doesn't show the pop-up in FF.
How does this happen to apply to Costco Amex? Well, I was just told that if I regularly access AE's account online then it sends all communications, including pop-ups informing you of important account information, like the dissolution of the cobranded card. Thank, uBlock, in this one case you were a blockhead.

Second, come June the cobranded card in hand will die hard. It will not be converted. The account open since date will remain across the transfer to Citi, but the Member Since date ties itself to the card brand (AE vs. Visa, etc.).
And while rumor/fact has been conveyed that no new credit reports are being pulled, the reports will reflect that Costco credit account has transferred from AE to Citi. And for those of you that are like me and do not wish for this to happen ...
Third, if you have not activated any issued Citibank Visa that is the cobranded card for Costco and you call Amex to cancel the cobranded CostcoAmex card no account transfer will take place. This is what Amex is telling me today.
So, I am about 5-6 days into my billing cycle and tomorrow I plan on removing any balance therein and cancelling the cobranded Amex card in order to prevent the grubby hands of Citibank from getting my account information.
Some just flat out don't take Amex at all. I never used to care because the phone purchases from vendors we aren't on charge with used to be rare and relatively small, but lately they've been much larger and more frequent, and using the debit card for these is just not a great option anymore.Your cobranded Amex, or just Amex? Nothing stopping you from canceling it and then getting a Blue Cash Amex. Not like Amex is going to send you away.

Your mistake is in assuming that businesses passed the fees along. No small business in our highly competitive climate is going to pass along CC fees. Especially a mom and pop business that is struggling to just keep the doors open while trying to compete with Costco, Sam's, Walmart and Amazon let alone the store down the street that sells basically the same merchandise or service.I don't get the resistance to taking Amex. The whole credit reform act provided a provision so that the businesses could pass along the merchant fees to the customer, but they had to inform the customer ahead of time.
