Just renewed my membership and bought a $500 gift card with my Chase Freedom for the 5% back.
wait a tic--how did you purchase that with a Visa? Does Costco allow any cc to be used to purchase gift cards? Oh--the new Citibank is a Visa?
:hmm:
You can use the Freedom card on Costco.com this quarter for the 5% bonus.

So for Chase Freedom 5% quarterly points for warehouse club, I can buy $1,500 worth of Costco gift cards at Costco.com using the Freedom card? And I get another 2% back as Costco Executive member?
Correct but I don't know if gift cards count towards that 2% back.
I just checked and it doesn't. But that's ok. 5% is still good so I bought $1,500 Costco cash card to max the Freedom quarterly bonus. Thanks for the info.
Correct but I don't know if gift cards count towards that 2% back.
If it does, I'll be upgrading to Executive for 1 year.
But you should get 2% Executive rewards when you spend the Costco cash card. So it's effectively 7%. You just get the 2% on the back end.
If you spend at least $2,750 a year at Costco, Executive Membership pays for itself. And if you don't, Costco will refund you the membership upgrade fee. And since you can't really shop at Costco without spending at least $200 a trip, you'll easily hit $2,750 if you shop at Costco at least once a month. Not to mention, there are some decent Executive Membership bonus offers when you book certain vacations/cruises through CostcoTravel. And once a year Executive Membership new tires coupon. You just need to spend another $1,250 to go along with Freedom $1,500. That should be piece of cake.
Calculation of 2% Reward
Reward is approximately 2% of pre-tax purchases of most merchandise made through: front-end registers and most ancillary business registers at Costco warehouses; and Costco Web sites in both the U.S. and Canada by U.S. and Canadian residents. In the U.S., Reward is not calculated: (i) on purchases of cigarettes or tobacco-related products, gasoline, Costco Cash Cards, postage stamps, alcoholic beverages in certain states (including Alabama, Connecticut, Georgia, Kentucky, Ohio, and Michigan), and at food courts; (ii) on membership fees; (iii) on purchases not recorded through Costco's front-end registers and transactions done on or through Web sites not hosted by Costco even if accessed through Costco.com, including all business, consumer, and insurance services, the online photo center, Costco Travel, and the My Publisher website; (iv) on miscellaneous fees, deposits and taxes, including sales tax; (v) where prohibited by law or regulation; (vi) on purchases made by anyone other than the account's primary or primary Household Cardholder; and (vii) on certain other categories as determined at Costco's discretion, which may change without notice. A member must be an active, paid Executive Member when the Reward is earned and issued to receive the Reward. The period of calculation runs through the date approximately 3 months prior to the member's renewal date. Executive Members who downgrade to Gold Star or Business status or cancel their membership at renewal and receive a refund of their membership fee may not receive a Reward based on purchases during approximately the last 3 months of their last full year of Executive Membership.
Looks like it will only be 5% oh well was worth a shot:
You don't get the 2% on the Costco cash card initial purchase. You get 2% later when you spend the Costco cash card. If they paid you 2% on the initial cash card purchase, they would be paying you 4% as they would have to pay you 2% when you use the cash card as well. So no double dipping for 4% but you do get 2% when you spend the cash card.
Well, usually the reason I am on the phone paying with a card is because I couldn't find the item through customary means. So telling them to sod off is not usually an option at that point.I don't get the resistance to taking Amex. The whole credit reform act provided a provision so that the businesses could pass along the merchant fees to the customer, but they had to inform the customer ahead of time.
When I get someone that says they do not accept Amex I ask them why, they tell me because of the higher merchant fees. I inform them of the above and they play ignorant. I guess they run a muck in bliss.
I always look for what is taken, and not, and weigh that into my decision to do business with said business. Businesses that are close minded like this are just poor business operators.

LoL I'm single and not buying for a family so I only hit about $100 per trip unless I'm buying alcohol.
This tire coupon you speak of, tell me more about it!

Week ago I got coupon code for $60 off tire installation that's exclusive to Executive members. That's on top of the current $70 off Bridgestone tires that's available to all members. I got similar coupon last year and the year before. The extra $60 off on tires will pay for the Executive membership if you need tires.
I have been an Executive member for years now and never receive such coupon code. How do you get it? I do need new tires soon, so an extra $60 off is icing on top of that $70 off cake
If I was single, I doubt I would have Costco membership.
Costco sends it via email in their spam sales flyer. In it, it has special coupon code for the deal. The deal is good til 4/18/16. So if you didn't receive it, you should call or visit the membership desk to see if you can get your special code.
