Not true / nothing at all to worry about. Right now they accept ALL American Express cards. No need to register anything anywhere for any reason or even be in possession of a Costco branded AMEX card if you already have an AMEX card with similar/better bonuses (unless of course you want more than one). The only changes will be that the Costco branded card will become a Citi VISA and instead of only accepting AMEX they will only accept VISA credit cards.

Debit/check/cash payment options are not any different than they always have been.
Really? I think they must have lied to me when I joined. I thought they told me that I could only use the amex or cash, but I won't swear to it. I never knew that debit cards were an option. I assume they don't advertise that because they're getting a cut/kickback from whatever vendor fee they pay.

edit: so I wonder what they're going to do about an id photo. Right now, my picture is printed on theback of my amex. Are they going to go back to issuing membership cards?

Might just be that they will zap your pic over to Citi and it will appear on the back of the Citi card. I'll bet that's a 100% certainty.

Will they take any VISA or only Citibank Visa?

Any VISA.

Beginning June 20, the only accepted forms of payment at Costco warehouses in the U.S. will be Visa cards, cash, checks, debit/ATM cards, EBT and Costco Cash Cards. American Express Cards will no longer be accepted at Costco in the U.S. after June 19.

The Citi url mentioned in the image i posted earlier is now live.

http://citi.com/welcomecostco

When you begin using your new card on June 20, 2016, all purchases you make with your new card will earn Costco Cash Rewards! You will earn:
4% cash back on eligible gas worldwide, including gas at Costco, for the first $7,000 per year and then 1% thereafter
3% cash back on restaurant and eligible travel purchases worldwide
2% cash back on all other purchases from Costco and Costco.com
1% cash back on all other purchases
Keep scrolling to view the other benefits of your new card in the next two sections.

It's a good thing as visa is used so much more then about any other CC these days and honestly it's about time they switched from something like amex.

My guess is either a misinformed employee or a misunderstanding on your part (though I'm sure it is also possibly you got a shady employee lying).

Re: the picture, i'm sure they'll do it the same way they handle the image on the current AMEX. They have your member picture on file and just use that one. Citi will get that along with the rest of your info and it'll be on the card when you get it in May.

From the new FAQ:
Costco Membership
Is my new Costco Anywhere Card also my Costco membership card?
Yes.

Membership Card

Your Costco Anywhere Card also serves as your Costco membership card (membership card on back of credit card) so no need to carry two separate cards.

interesting 4% back on Costco gas.
does that mean the business Costco citi visa will be 1% more (ie: 5%) like the current Costco business amex?

edit:
wait.. nevermind..
if they accept any visa, then Costco gas stations will accept my 5% gas card.

I believe they changed their policy at some point as I recall being told the same. We've been members since 2000 so when the policy changed I do not know.

What coding do Costco gas pumps use? Does it qualify for the gas cashback rewards on most cards?

Benefits on this card look pretty good, may get it. Way better than Sams card

True, but a lot of people won't pay the premium even if technically they can afford it. At least a Costco the only people I usually see riding a scooter are people who are obviously old or infirm. There's also no spandex or free-range butt crack.
Another part of that is Costco doesn't put their stores in crappy areas.

Member since 2003 and I've always had the option to pay with debit (+pin, not debit visa swipe) so if it changed (and not member misunderstanding / employee lying) then it was between 2000 and 2003

This will be a meaningful improvement over the benefits offered by the Amex card. Better benefits at Costco, better benefits elsewhere. I don't like Citiback as a company, but I have no complaints with the card's benefits.

hey Ross, who was the guy who did the "will I fit" pics in the kiddie cars at the mall?
Oh yeah, boo on Costco, I have had nothing but grief from citicorp.

I love Amex customer service but the new rewards for Citi Visa trumps the superior Amex customer service. I rather have increased rewards cashback. 4% gas, 3% restaurants and travel, and 2% at Costco is awesome.

For people whining about losing the Amex card because of the switch to Citi Visa, just get another Amex card. There are plenty of great Amex cards to choose from.

yeah, great timing for the 3% restaurants since citi forward is nerfing their 5% for restaurants.

there are 5% gas cards out there that I will use instead at the Costco pump.

I will miss the better rewards with the Business version vs the regular peon version of the Costco credit card

It isn't so much the loss of the Costco Amex as it is the forced Citi relationship. Wife and I have not seen anything, received anything regarding the changeover, nor have we been given the option to officially Opt-out. Our local Costco warehouse is as ignorant as we are and they are just as frustrated.

I have no issue with Costco moving to Visa and I would happily use one of my existing Visa accounts with Costco. I have other Amex accounts, too. But the way Costco has handled the situation in our eyes is extremely poor on judgement and not in this customer's benefit.

My rebate check from Costco is a tiny, tiny joke compared to my Amex rebate ($800-900 on a really slow/bad year). We'll just continue to use the Amex Blue Cash card we've had longer than the Costco Amex as it is free and cash back.

Just leaves a raw feeling with us. Might be on par with a mugging.

I'll use the Citi Card for gas but I think I will use the new Chase Freedom Unlimited for my regular purchases. It's only 1.5% back but it's converted to UR points which I can book hotels/flights for 2.5 cents + per point.

Case in point, my Hyatt booking this summer is worth 5 cents per UR point.
