thx for reminding me about Chase Freedom 5% for Costco.com.

even tho penfed's 5% gas visa is good at the pump, i'll take a free $75 from Chase for buying $1500 Costco gift cards.

hm.. can non-members use the pumps by using just the gift cards?

I see people using VISA at costco gas pumps all the time. So I'm assuming they aren't checking to see those customers are members or not.

The first thing the pumps ask for is your Costco membership card. At confirms active status and then asked for payment type.

BTW, I am not sure you can use gift/costco cash cards at the pump. I ask this because i asked a couple of years ago about using an Amex gift card that i got (<$100). They said the system places a temp reserve of something like $400 on the card until the transaction is done and then removes it in favor of the actual charge.

Not sure if the guy was BS'ing me or not, but there you have it.

You can use Costco cash/gift cards. It shows your balance when you swipe and asks if you want to pay with it.

no.
visa only, tho I don't know why?
visa and mastercard are usually interchangeable.

I have no idea what the diff, if any, is between the 2?

Costco made the deal with Citi and Visa, not MasterCard.

Has anyone gotten their new card yet?

Got mine last week.

Almost put the cards in the shredder because it looked like one of those fake cards they send you. I realize they were not fake when I saw the activate stickers on them.

Wow
4% Most Gas
3% Restaurants
Nice... better than my Chase Amazon card of 2% on both.

Sucks that these rewards are for Costco cash (or cash redeem once a year at Costco).
I like access to my rewards as a statement credit whenever I want.

Does anybody have the rebate percentages for the Costco Visa?

incase the post above yours wasn't sufficient:

4% cash back on eligible gas worldwide, including gas at Costco, for the first $7,000 per year and then 1% thereafter
3% cash back on restaurant and eligible travel purchases worldwide
2% cash back on all other purchases from Costco and Costco.com
1% cash back on all other purchases

I didn't know this until this last year, but you can just bring the rebate check to the customer service desk and cash them out! Did this in February for cash in hand instead of using it to pay for my purchases at the register. You can use the cash to pay off your statement (or not!).

AFAIK there are at least 3 methods to cash your CostCo rebate check:

1) Customer service counter will give you cash.
2) Redeem at cash register during checkout.
3) Call Amex ask them to apply it directly to your account, they'll confirm it hasn't been redeemed and it's applied within a few days. I lost mine and wanted to cash it before Amex ends their relationship with CostCo on June 19th. I believe they don't expire until end of August.

After being told by both Amex and Costco that if one cancels their cobranded Costco Amex card by June 16th, 2016 that no account information will be transferred from Amex to Citi, I cancelled my cobranded Costco Amex card (in April). When I cancelled, Amex informed me that my cashback would be lost instead of transferred and I agreed to cancel.

Today I get a Citi letter with cobranded Costco Visa cards inside. I should not have received these cards. I look at the customer service number on the back and call it. I informed the person I have not now nor will I be activating any credit cards with Citi but had a question.

I asked if by Citi issuing said cards to me in my name meant that my Costco cobranded Amex account information had been transferred to Citi and she said, "Yes, absolutely! I asked if this information would be redacted for those accounts not activating by, say, July 30th and she said "Not that I am aware of, sir"

I politely end the call and call Amex. I used a customer service number based on another cobranded Amex card but the customer service agent helps me. She states that there was some 'staging' of account information being transferred to Citi but cannot explain why mine was transferred after verifying I cancelled my Costco cobranded Amex account back in April.

She looks in whatever she can look in and is inclined to believe that if no issued Citi Visa card is activated by June 20th that said information is supposed to be removed from Citi. Now, how many of you believe this? I do not believe it.

So, if Citi every gets hacked and my information is garnered who do I file a happy suit against? Costco and or Amex? I even managed to get the Citi Visa rep to verify a portion of my SSN--how the hell does that happen?

Costco, Amex and Citi and for sure keep track of the legal bills because they're going to really add up. But hey I get it, it's the principle of the thing.

Or, you could untwist your panties and drop $9 and be protected against the inevitable Citi hack and so much more.

Credit Freeze

Georgia's credit freeze law provides Georgia consumers with the ability to place a freeze on their credit file for only $3, or a total of $9 for each of the three major credit-reporting agencies: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. Each temporary lift – commonly called a “thaw” – to allow access to the consumer’s credit file also costs $3, and is available electronically within 15 minutes of request, keeping on-the-spot credit an option for shoppers. If you are the victim of identity theft, there is no charge for a credit freeze. Placing a credit freeze is also free to senior citizens 65 or older, but they can be charged $3 for lifting or removing the freeze.

If you ever do a credit freeze, just be damned sure that you keep the pin number each bureau gives you because w/o that, you're screwed. Trying to unfreeze your account w/o the pin can take weeks or months. So make sure you write it down someplace where you're going to be able to find it in a few months or a few years.

Does anyone know what happens to our old co-branded CostCo Amex credit card? They've mailed me some literature which I haven't read yet.

Unfortunately I already have an Amex BCE and don't want to lose/close my Amex CostCo line of credit for credit history reasons.

There must be a few AT'ers in the same boat, what are you doing?

That's not the point. We were told one thing and they did something completely opposite. Maybe you don't give a shit about your financial information being handed around like a cheap hooker, but this ho likes his secrets.

If I read it properly then they will close the account and you can not use the card anymore. That is why they are pushing for us Amex Costco card owners to sign up for another CC before this one closes.

How old are you? 80?

If you think Citi didn't have your financial info long before this transfer, you are wrong.
Your info is a commodity in the financial industry. It gets traded around to anyone willing to pay.

I kept getting notices from AMEX regarding the change and I went ahead and signed up for the card they were offering. When I did that it gave me the option of adding it to my current online account which I did. Hopefully that will allow me access to my Costco statements as well as the new card going forward however AMEX does say this in their FAQ regarding the switch:

On and after June 20, 2016, you will no longer have access to your American Express Costco Co-Brand Card account at americanexpress.com. Before June 20, 2016, please download and save any billing statements for your American Express Costco Co-Brand Card that you would like to keep for your records.
