great, and I'm in NY. I'm getting ass-raped by the insurance. Doesn't help that I'm a 20-year-old guy with a newish car either.

i spend $1100 a year for my car insurance in NYS. it would be 7 or 8 times that amount if I live in the new york city.

Anyone want to hazard a guess on why there is such a large discrepancy among states?
I can understand New Jersey having high rates because it is the most densely populated of all 50 states, but I don't understand many of the other rates.

Darn it! NY lost the battle on highest average insurance. We've still got NJ beaten by a mile in property taxes. And, I think we have NJ beaten in income tax as well.
Oh, and we have NJ beaten in sales tax too!

Uninsured motorist's raising the average claim rates of those that DO have insurance? I know LAUST has complained numerous times about the unisured drivers there. Also car theft. Arizona is one of, if not the, highest auto theft states in nation.
