Update

Thanks to my dad and my sister who came up and ended up helping me mount the projector and screen, it's looking pretty close to finished.

Now all that is needed some are speaker mounts for the rear speakers, a place for the receiver and elite, a mount for the center and I'll be good to go.

Still haven't decided what the long term solution to seating is going to be...

And the lace window treatments have to go. I think we'll be making a custom treatment with the fabric we have left over from wrapping the frame.

End update

So, I finally got the screen put together (it's on the floor because I am waiting on the projector ceiling mount...) and I now need furniture.

The WAF dictates that we get something that a person 6'+ could sleep on - hence a couch. This is a repurposed bedroom, but it still has to be able to function for occasional over night stays.

The room is also only like 12*14, but we have the longest wall (no door) to use for the furniture.

Any suggestions on brand, place to buy, etc? Pretty open to anything, budget needs to be realistic in that my whole HT setup cost about, well...

$70 - Screen
$300 - 360
$130 - Receiver
$60 - Speakers
$120 - Sub
$30 - misc cables
$440 - Infocus X1a + mount (The screen is 16:9 as I won't be buying a bulb for this projector)

$1,150 total

I'd like to spend in that range for the couch/sectional.

Thanks a bunch!

we have that for our living room in the basement. they have the mocha one pictured, we have the taupe one. it's plenty long for a 6' person (me) to sleep on.

i was just at Hom furniture in maple grove the other day and saw it there, definitely cheaper than the $1599 the website lists it as.

here is the couch in taupe:

That looks pretty nice - we'll have to check it out. It would be best for our room if the L was on the other end, but we'll have to go home and do some measuring.

Thanks

Your best bet is going to be hitting clearances and other sales. Getting a decent sofa for under $600 is a little tricky, but should be doable. We actually picked up a very nice reclining loveseat (showroom model) with center console for < $600.

Edit: I am 6' 5" and have fallen a sleep in the chair fully reclined a couple times already, so they are fine for a nap. If it is to have guests sleep on all night, I'd suggest a nice, inflatable air mattress, over putting them on the couch, since they'd be able to roll over and sleep more comfortably. I know how it goes with the wife though, so I understand if she shoots down any theater chair suggestions.

I bought 3 of these Theater chairs I couldn't touch that price locally. The shipping is free in lower 48, and no tax here in Fl. So the price was exactly as listed.

Pros-

No add-on for shipping, and depending on where you live, no tax.

They are pretty plush and comfortable to sit in, though for a guy 6'5", the leg rest could have a little more padding IMO. Wife and son have no complaints though.

They are fully reclining.

They are 100% leather. No "touch" leather, patch leather, etc

Reclining mechanism is smooth, and overall construction, solid.

Cup holders. Hey, it fits a bottle of brew and most cups, and is it really a theater chair without a cup holder?

Took only 2.5 weeks to get them, the sofa we bought locally from a showroom is taking longer than that to arrive.

Cons- (Some of which may not be a con at all, to some, but big ones to others)

Made in China.

Only comes in the Toffee color pictured, and the brass nail head trim look doesn't suit everyone. (Should go well with most wood flooring, looks good with ours.)

The minimum is the 3 pictured as the center one hooks to the end chairs. They do give you as many center add ons as you want for $400 each.

Freight shipping does not offer full service. They will drop it off in the garage, porch, etc.

The chairs are very well packaged, but in boxes, and a little assembly is required. However, back rests slip right into steel rails, chairs hook together and are very easy to connect. I had the whole thing unboxed and assembled in approx. 3/4hr.

Overall, for $1400 I am very pleased. As stated, I couldn't touch that price after tax(and with some stores, deliver fee) locally for all leather, reclining, theater chairs. hth

Very interesting - the site is in itself a good find. Thank you

Here's another site that sells theater seating. I bought 2 rows of 3 (6 recliners total) and the price was pretty reasonable. I got in on a power buy over at AVS forum. I got the berkline 45004 recliners. When I did my research a year or so ago most people said that the build quality of the berkline's was much better than the coasters.

EDIT: I should also note that my sister-in-law prefers to sleep in the recliners when she visits instead of the couch or air mattress.

The Berklines look quite nice, I need the wall away feature for my space. I am thinking of doing a "sofa" - three seats with arms on the end, and then one more single. Seating for four would be quite nice - we want to be able to have couples over too. If we wanted to change, I think we could just get arm kits?

I know about the couch/sofa - it's just want we have decided to do

That site is very good too, Tifababy - thank you. The information is good, I just get a little lost over on AVS forums when I am looking for info. I can spend hours reading those ridiculously long threads!

Erwos, will keep our eyes open for the value furniture too - the less we spend on this, the more $$$ I have to upgrade with, right?

OP, I have an InFocus X1 projector and was wondering what are your impressions of using it with the XBOX360; How's the experience compared with a modern HDTV supported LCD/Plasma (if you had the chance to compare)?

Are you using a VGA or Component outputs to connect it to the projector? Is it even possible to connect the 360 via VGA? (The original X1 was delivered with a special S-Video-to-Component cable but at at a later stage it was no longer included; I was unfortunate and got no such cable)

The X1 is an old projector.. will the fact that it can't display HDTV content hinder the gaming experience significantly?

Thanks.

infocus x1a, some best buy Sony towers ($100 for the pair), Circuit City Sony center channel (~$60), and some pioneer surrounds that were $20 for the pair at least three black fridays ago. Pioneer 515 receiver, I believe. And last but certainly not least, a last gen 12" Dayton sub that *rocks* this size of room

Not the most awesome setup, but as far as bang for the buck goes, it delivers.

I used this component to VGA switcher plus this to change the gender so I was able to use the component output cables provided by the 360, but also I have used them for the game cube and Wii with good results. I then use 720p on the 360 and 480p on the others and let the internal chip do the scaling. I also force the projector into 16:9 mode as the auto adjust wasn't doing it automatically.

Wii and gamecube look phenomenal, there isn't much like it when it comes to games like Kart. As far as the 360, I find it to be very nice although when compared to a nice LCD or plasma you are definitely loosing some sharpness. When it comes to blowing up just about anything to 80+ inches, however, this is somewhat to be expected. I find that it works very well and the people have seen it always remark how awesome it is to play on. I have played quite a few hours of Burnout Paradise on it and it is awesome. Even at 800*600, the resolution is much higher than the typical "sdtv".

The X1 should do a little better, because it has a much nicer internal scaler if I remember correctly.

What I found most challenging with the X1a is mounting it given that you only have digital corrections and no optical ones. Now, I paid $400 for the projector brand new so I can't really complain, but if you are willing to settle for any image that isn't quite "perfect" it can be a great fit.
