Could Boston's T system be more convoluted??

Ok, so I'm going to BU in the autumn to the school of social work, over on Bay Street in Boston. Now one would think that a school with billions of dollars flowing in would have a fucking garage remotely close to campus, but you'd be wrong. That'd be too easy. So there's nowhere for me to park near campus, well there is, but the lots are like 30/day and I can't even remotely afford that. So I figure, ok, everyone in Boston ejaculates about how awesome the T is, so I'll just mosey over to the website and find out which line comes nearest to B.U. Easy, right? Holy fucking murder-fuck....the MAP for the T shows the green line running by B.U. in the most circuitous fucking route possible short of actually getting there by way of fucking phoenix. Then there's this fucking thing. Seriously, that's a search on the T website that says that bay state road in BOSTON is right next to PROVIDENCE FUCKING RHODE ISLAND. THEN the fucking search for Boston University on the T's page either lends a page error OR a claim that the red-line comes near it, even though the map doesn't show it coming close. Good work guys. no wonder the fucking Ted Williams tunnel is spilling raw fucking sewage on motorists.

So I have NO fucking idea what lines run in a somewhat direct manner towards or near B.U. I swear not even people that LIVE in Boston have any fucking clue where B.U. is, or what lines come near it. I've gotten PM's from 5 different well-meaning people on ATOT each suggesting one of the 5 colored lines as the quickest way, and telling me the other 4 come no where near the school, or that it'd take them hours to get there, even though they're all assuming I'm at the same starting point.

Even people that GO to B.U. can't give me a straight answer, they all claim they ride it in every day, but ask them which line is best to take from the city I say I'd be starting from at the time and I get completely different answers, even though the city I use as a starting point is always the same.

Last week I figured I'd look in Newton, I asked what lines quickest to get to B.U. from Newton...one person said the green line in 20 minutes, another said the orange line. Others got a look on their face like I just asked them to lick shit off a statue of Hitler and exclaim 'NEWTON??? THAT'S AN HOUR AWAY NO MATTER WHAT LINE YOU'RE ON". Someone else had the balls to suggest I take the fucking 'commuter rail' in, which is apparently different from the 'elitist prick rail' that uses the color coded line system. Even though from what I can tell the commuter rail takes 8x as long to get where I'd want to go, at 3x the price.

ALL I WANT is a fucking apartment that is close to a T line that gets me near to 264 Bay State road, Federal Street for my internship, and the B.U. gym. Plus I need parking at the apartment since my internship requires travel via car to non T accessible locations. Which isn't a big deal since the only thing accessible via T is other goddamn T stations, and Boston, Rhode Island. Fuck.

the green line takes you to BU, and then to BC, there are liek 9 BU stops on it

its not hard to figure out at all

Red and orange go North South

green Goes east west,

Blue goes to the airport

thats really all there is to it

BC ( which is in Newton last stop on the Green Line) to the center of the BU campus is like 20 min miday, when there arnt 11million people getting on/off at evert stop + the T is above ground there so it has to stop for trafic at some places

BC-BU at say 8 am will prob take an hour

the T system really is simple once you ride it once or twice, the Bus's are just as easy to figure out

I've seen children ride the T alone. Children. There are 4 line and its color coded, unless you're color blind you have absolutly no excuse for not being able to figure it out.

Look at B line

There are three stops for BU which all say BU, grow up and figure it out. And since you have no idea where you're even going to live, whats the point of asking for help from people.

BU: Green Line -> B line -> BU EAST/BU Central/BU West stops are your best bet.
http://www.google.com/maps?q=B...785,0.014291&z=16&om=1

South Station or downtown crossing are probably your best bets for federal street
http://www.google.com/maps?q=B...785,0.014291&z=16&om=1

Saying Newton doesn't provide enough info to be able to tell you which route is the best. More info on where you're coming from can help us help you. Please provide your address and social security number. This post is being recorded for quality assurance.

Edit: PS. google maps shows T stops if you zoom in.
PPS. How much are you looking to spend (roommate?)? How ghetto are you willing to go?...that really sets where you should be looking.

QFT.

I am one of the folks that helped our "i loathe public transit" OPie via PM (yes, he said that). He wanted to live in Newton. Newton?! But our OPie is going to BU. Anyway, i explain that The D TRAIN ON THE GREEN LINE goes to Kenmore from Newton. From Kenmore i told him he would have to take the B TRAIN ON THE GREEN LINE to get to BU. This will take our OPie more than an hour one way. I said, "live somewhere else. Thats too far." Plus, the green line sucks.

Also, the trip planner at MBTA.com is broken, im pretty sure i told our OPie this too. Man, this is the last time i try to help someone moving to boston via PM. :|

PPPS: I suggest looking at apartments in the Brighton and Alston areas. They aren't called student ghettos for nothing...Google maps-> search for stuff between Comm Ave, Beacon Street, and Brookline Ave as far out as the chestnut hill reservoir.

F that, he can walk from Kenmore to anywhere on BU, but it'll still going to be an 45 min to an hour.

Yep, its only about 3 or 4 stops. I was giving directions ON the T, and i did tell him that the green line is no better than a moving sidewalk . That, and it can get pretty *effing* hot and cold some days. Meh, via PM it was clear that the OPie is not a "city guy" by any stretch of the imagination.

LOL...what an idiot...

When i was living in the Boston area, I was staying in Braintree right around the corner from the T station...it took a while to get into town, but damn it was cheap and easy...

i used to take the red to the green every day when i was in boston, neither are really that bad at all, and the Green moves noticibly faster then walking adn you dont have to deal with getting run over crossing the street

they are packed in the morning but thats expected, the green clears out after kenmore,

the AC worked fine on them when i was there however it is like a sauna in the winter

C and D lines aren't bad. They will be about 30 minutes to Kenmore from the cleveland circle and reservoir stops at 8:30am. Then a 10 - 15 minute walk (beats waiting for the B line)

B line is about 45 minutes to an hour to get from chestnut hill stop to the BU stops.

Those three stops are a short walk from each other. Newton is do-able, but it requires having a book to read.
