,.. uhm.. what are you arguing exactly?? And, are you sure it should be with me?

Because if your KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) are based on God,.. you won't get jack shit accomplished.

Just like God won't pay my bills, God won't get your TPS reports done either.

my point is you said:
as he isn't making it a criteria for work (i.e. the project is a success, when Jesus approves,... etc.), then you can't do anything about that.

My point is that even if he is, you can't do anything about that either. You didn't talk about getting things accomplished, you talked about what he could do. And I am sorry to say, he can do whatever the hell he wants.

No. What you should do is get over it. I don't think I've heard a ringtone yet that didn't annoy the shit out of me. Gospel music would be much nicer than most of them, even though that would annoy me too. In any case, If I can refrain from demanding that people change every [insert random shitty rap/rock/pop/country artist] ringtone I hear, you can learn to ignore this guy's ringtone too.

Why the fuck to people have to obsess over stupid shit like this?

Based on the content of the OP, we should go to Dari's house and cast partially melted ice cream bars at him and his computer until he is incapable of posting.

Criteria for work is not work culture.

Criteria for work is performance (deliver A, in Z quality). This (prayer, holy language, etc.) is work culture thing. And, you can not do anything about it. You can't stop work culture. Nor should you frankly.

However, you are telling me, that there are job postings out there, where the requirements for work perfomance is:
- Get Jesus' to bless this project
- Deliver 100 saved souls to the pearly gates of Heaven
- Smite 1,000 demons

If yes,.. OK. That's a new one.

And, furthermore, people are actually taking such jobs? As well as delivering such Holy work performance requirements and deliverables??

Why? Because I have to hear often and my job requires actual thinking and analysis so small shut like this grates me like the screech of a chalkboard.

I hardly think Gospel music is as grating of a ringtone as "I like big butts" or some other popular song. However, I would still ask him to put his phone on silent during work hours. It is extremely annoying to have someone's phone going off repeatedly during work, especially, if this happens on a regular basis.

Because I am not comfortable around religious people. They tend to delegate to a higher power rather than do what has to be done.

Q: If he changed the ringtone, would that change anything?

A: No, you would still be a bigot

You're still going to be around a religious person regardless of what his ringtone sounds like. On the second point, Religious people tend to segregate their thinking into at least 2 categories; practical everyday shit that they have to take care of themselves, and magical big shit that they can't do anything about. That means they put things like Mom's breast cancer in God's hands, but they still know that they have to get the expense report done themselves. I've always thought of that as a kind of tacit admission that God actually doesn't do shit ever, but that's another argument entirely. In any case, it means that religion rarely affects their work.

As far as the annoyance factor of the ringtone goes, I don't see a problem with requesting that he put his phone on vibrate. Most people wouldn't have a problem with that regardless of religion. Don't bring up how he addresses people though.

Then why aren't cell phones banned from being on audible ringers?

Yes, you have every right to ask him to please put his god blessed cell phone in the wonderful and lovely silent mode. Tell him that gods children think the best when they have oneness with god which can be only achieved with minimal distractions such as loud ring tones.

Lots of stupid, petty people in the world.

Also, lots of self-centered jerks who think their phone is so important the rest of us should know when it rings too, and also what kind of crappy music they like to hear when their therapist calls.

Yep. Also lots of people who have no problem having a conversation on their phone in public. I like to pretend these people are talking to me and talk back to them. For some reason they never seem to want to talk to me though?

Oh well.

I said fuck it and asked him to turn it down. I told him it was annoying. I think I may have hurt his feelings but fuck how he feels.

You can't do anything about that no matter what. God is not forbidden my friend.

We start our staff meetings out with a prayer. Does that anger you?

God may not be forbidden but if you use God (or a lack thereof) to influence promotions, hiring or firing then you are breaking the law.

Starting off staff meetings with prayer may be ok but compulsory participation would not be ok. Singling out those that didn't participate would not be ok. Using the lack of prayer as a reason to fire or not promote would not be ok. If you did that you'd be sued and you'd deserve to lose.

In reality bringing religion in to the work place as anything but an individual contributor is just opening yourself up to lawsuits.

If you can't fathom this just imagine working at a muslim run company with opening prayers to Allah.

Of course none of this applies if you work at a church, temple or maybe religiously affiliated school.

If it was country music and it irked you, would you have a problem saying "hey, your ringtone is kinda distracting, can you turn the ringer off at work or change it to something more subtle?".

Unless you set Office Policy, don't bother. It will just create unnecessary drama.

So what you're basically saying is that everybody should be an uptight asshole fuckhead bigot like you instead of letting trivial shit like this just roll?

I'm just surprised that he's not hiring someone to poison the guy. OP is a sociopath.

Change your ringtone to a Richard Dawkin's rant. Call yourself every 15 minutes.
