Well I've got the files downloaded and I'm working on them, this "project" doesn't seem nearly as memory intensive or CPU intensive as you guys think, most of the work seems to be on the HDD's I/O operations.
Why I say it's not memory intensive is cause it's only using about 1.1GB of memory (600MB Physical memory, 580 Page file), implying it doesn't really need lots of ram but requires lots of I/O operations... (Biggest bottleneck is the Hard Drive), looks like if you wanted this done quickly, you'd need RAID with Raptors and the very least 1 raptor.
I've seen Battlefield 2 use more memory than this...
I'm wondering if you HAVE to use photomerge... I'm guessing no. Why can't you keep it simple and just expand the canvas and manually place?
Probably because when you move the image it will more then likely crash the hell otu of your system!
Any updates on anyone being able to do this?

I managed to get an "out of memory" error, tried it again and i managed to bypass it, merging two of the three images, I'm doing it agian, allowing photoshop to use 100% of memory available instead of 50% as it was paging to the drive too much. But at least after merging the images I don't get "out of memory" message which is an important step. The real question is instead of having the OP with little DPI and large canvas, why didn't the OP have high DPI with a small canvas? When I was working with those 4GB files I had 9600DPI and it worked much quicker and better so...
