It's been about -30 here at night during the last week and will continue for the next few days at least. So no, I wouldn't be able to handle that.

No way. I'm a spoiled babygirl, I'd freeze and be miserable. I'd have to shoot myself if I didn't have my daddy and my bunbun to take care of me.

What the fuck, is it like a federal holiday today? Go back to school.

Excuse me? Don't be bitter just because I'm 5'2 and could still take you in a fist fight.

I think that's his way of saying he likes you. Isn't that how fifth grade boys act?

At the risk of actually being on-topic ... uh, nevermind. As you were.

You'd smell like shit, prob. couldnt brush your teeth much- god help you if you get sick...etc etc
Could I do it? Sure- but I'd do everything I could to prevent it. And working 8hrs 5 days a week is not bad at all- I still feel like I have plenty of free time

I'd get work on a cargo ship or something going to Hawaii. Homeless people there set up camps on the beach and just live there an no one cares. I've never understood why someone would be homeless and live anywhere that it gets below freezing.

I was discussing the situation with my mother. I often make the joke that "Work is overrated" The thing is I half belive it when I say it. She didn't seem to think it was funny.

I still live at home and the cost of living in So. Cal is crazy. If I don't end up with a "real" job in the near future I'll be at home for at least another year or two despite the urge to leave. She really didn't like it when I jokingly said, if I have to, I can be a homeless person. I think it genuinly upset her to think that her child would ever end up living on the street.

I'm not lazy when it comes to working a job but I'm not super ambitious and I'm not 100% sure what job I want. She said I could work three jobs to make a living if I had to. I argued back that working three jobs wouldn't be living. Spending 8 hours a day at a job already seems excessive if you ask me. I can't imagine dedicating more time to working just to say I live on my own.

I'm not sure I have what it takes to be homless and survive on the streets but I encounter homeless people quite regularly working downtown and they seem to do a good job at it.

Have you read my thread? Text

I'm not really sure if you're serious about this. Your story is pretty fucking lame. I can't imagine someone actually having as little self-progressional motivation as you. If you're trolling and I'm wasting my breath I'm going to find you and do harm to pandas in front of you.

First of all how old are you and what responsibilities do you have? That makes a big difference. I'm going to respond as if you were low twenties since thats what it sounds like.

You can't imagine dedicating more time to working just to say you live on your own? You know eventually you're going to have to start taking responsibility for yourself right? And its better to discipline yourself so something doesn't just happen out of the blue and you go into shock because you don't know how to live on your own, budget yourself, discipline your spending, fucking do your own laundry, etc...

What happened to pride in independence? I was 16 when I (by choice) stopped living with my parents, 17 when I had an apartment with a roommate and I haven't once asked for a dime from them since. They live minutes away, I love them both, but I like my independence and I only see or hear from them about 7 days a year. They understand I want my space and respect it. That's not everyone's life story but at some point you're going to have to get off your ass and live your own life.

I can tell you right now you can't fucking be homeless. You suck at life. Homeless people suck at social life but they are good at staying alive. It doesn't sound like you'd be willing to make the effort to survive. You'd probably just jump off of a parking garage because its just to hard to live. No, not jump, walk off. Jumping is too much work.

So. Cal is expensive? Move. Living with parents? That's fine, just make sure you're saving and making progress in your life. Your mom said you could work three jobs- that's the best fucking idea I've heard in this thread. Its not about wasting days away until something better comes along. Its all about setting yourself up so when the time comes to begin your career all you'll have to do is step on board. Doesn't sound like you have too many bills or responsibilities, which is good. 8 hours a day at a job is minimal, especially if you are patiently waiting around for a career. Jobs are what you do when you are saving up money to be ready to start your life.

Pull yourself together dude...

Therein lies the rub.
You assume too much in terms of what constitutes "making it" on the streets.
It's not easy, it's not fun and it's not camping out.
The predators out there are on two legs and they are smart about their environment and you would be easy pickings.

The Puritan Work Ethic has been dislodged by some misguided sense of self importance and seperation from society. Assimilation has been replaced by stratification.

I read some of that other thread when you started it Mr. Pickles. None of what you said upsets me and I wasn't just trolling.

I've had a job since my senior year in high school. My parets paid for college and I graduated in August 2006. My degree isn't of much use as I'm no longer interested in the field it relates to. I'm happy to have it now for jobs that require a bachelors just to apply.

That high school job lasted through college (flexible) and I left finally in August 2008. I left so that I could take a step towards finding the right career as there wasn't much room for growth where I was and the work was boring (banking).

I don't think I'd ever resort to being homeless. It was more of a joke but the reaction it got out of my mom got me thinking. I'm living rent free with few bills so I don't ask for much of anything anymore.

Like I said I'm currently employed but it's not permanent. I might just have to try working three jobs because then I might have a better chance of finding one that suits me.

as a former homeless man, i'll give u advice. make sure u have a list of relatively safe public washroom. get a duffle bag or travel/camp bag, and at least 2 spare sets of clothing, sleeping bag, towel, spoon, knife and can opener (cheap swiss army combo thingy useful too), soap, dish washing soap, sponge, koolaid, toothbrush, and salt. use washroom to wash clothes, hair, brush teeth with salt. soap up body and just rinse with cup. u can wash top body first then crotchal area. u can beg for money to buy bread (get fortified and whole wheat if possible), sometime u can get for free if it's a bit stale with some nosing around. also, there should be soap kitchen and stuff where u can get food, or just go to a church. a good many church will provide shelter and food, even help u find job. use library for internet and job app and porn when no1 looking. eat bread and koolaid (only one cup tho, rest drink water).

most important part is keeping urself clean, ppl will not chase u away from places if u just look normal. good luck

Yes I could handle it. Would I want to? Hell No are you nuts?

You'll see after about a week it sucks you are nothing, you got nothing, dirty grimy and working harder than ever just to stay alive and non-molested.

I sorta did it twice - once in a 1 week survivalist camp and once in college after I got kicked out of house I stayed on the beach inside my pickup camper shell for a week. These are not even really homeless homeless just hardcore camping out and it sucks. Sand and dirt everywhere, greasy skin, no cooking or warm food, totally at elements mercy to hot too cold too wet etc.

My advice is stop being such a deadbeat and get a change of attitude, being on streets will do it, so maybe that's what you need.

I could not, at least not here. Stuck outside in -40's no thanks.

If it was in the south, then I probably could, if forced, but obviously I'd do everything possible so I can live properly. If stuck homeless, then there's plenty of ways to get food and shelter, if in the south where there's no cold. Can pretty much sleep under a bridge, or build a hut in the forest using scraps found somewhere (plywood, etc, and trees). As for food, the food market, just have to be sneaky about it. Go for the stuff that falls on the ground, nobody is going to start guarding against an apple that's being kicked around and ended up in a corner.

I certainly wouldn't like it, but what happens must be borne.

I'll tell you one thing though. Whatever happen I WILL live. If that means living on the streets, then so be it.
