I would actually be willing to pay more additional HD channels on FiOS. And more on top that for native 4k.

Of course, anyone could physically survive without television.

But could you be happy without watching TV of any kind?

It's becoming more common these days for people to "cut the cable cord" and use streaming services like Netflix to fulfill their TV needs. It got me thinking - I rarely watch TV any more. In fact, I'm starting to consider "cutting the cable cord" and replacing it with nothing. Or maybe just have an antenna for the few times I want to watch local news broadcasts.

Anyone else feel like they would be perfectly fine without having TV in their lives?

I do not own a tv, i use the internet to watch the news if i want to and that is it. As long as i can not choose which channels i want to have and i pay per channel way less than the channel package available now, i am not interested. TV is awful these days. Way to much reality shows. Fun for one time but then it is over. Way too much talent shows. No real documentaries any more. I have the impression that documentaries are toned down to an extreme level as well.

And i almost forgot the most awful of all tv problems, those awful every 10 minutes commercials RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH !!!

How do you tell when somebody doesn't "watch TV?"

You don't, they'll inevitably tell YOU.
how about no?

i still watch shows, just not on tv, but on a famous website which lately is only accessible by proxy. so we'd be still talking about the latest shows and movies, and you wouldn't know i dont watch tv unless you asked, idk, maybe on a thread on AT forum.

unless ofc what interests you in tv is the commercials, fox news, various political and social propaganda, sports (you like sports, right?), the weather, the shopping channel, simpsons reruns from the reagan era, and surfing for something watchable at 4am when u cant sleep.

Yes and I hate conversations about cord cutting.

Feels like I am the only one who watches so little TV that I would never pay for cable in the first place.

People that don't watch TV are a lot like vegans- they always tell you within the first 5 minutes of meeting them.

As I just said I've done without TV ten years now but you couldn't have known. The only reason you might if you met me IRL is if you started talking to me about a show you thought everyone watched.

I turned off cable about 6 months ago. I don't miss it except for the occasional sports, which I can go to a sports bar to watch.

Absolutely. I WOULD be living without TV except my wife insists that we have it.

TV yes, Movies no. I love the movie experience and everything about it too much. TV, meh. It's something to do if I'm on the exercise bike in the dead of winter. I can't workout and read.

I haven't had a TV in more years than I can count. In fact I've only owned one TV. A 27" Trinitron. I gave it away to one of the guys at work years ago. That should tell you something.

I watch shows online but I have better things to do than watch TV and especially commercials.

Only reason I could see having one is if you HAVE to watch Game of Thrones on a 60" screen. I don't. For movies I go to the theater if they require a big screen.

I'm pretty active though so I might not be very representative of the general population. Given a choice between sitting home on a Monday or Sunday night and watching 11 minutes of football or doing something else I will chose something else 100% of the time. Life is too short to waste that much time on 11 minutes of sports.

Hmm, I would miss sports, but otherwise I could subsist on movies.

I am thinking about getting rid of cable. Called comcast about a half hour ago to see if I can get my bill lower since i am paying $165 for tv/internet/phone (I don't even have a house phone).
Of course they told me I am at the best package/cheapest rate and dropping the phone or downgrading the tv/internet will result in a higher price.

VPN for $5 a month, NHL Gamecenter for $50 so I can watch the Blackhawks and $65 + taxes/fees for stand alone internet.

Just need the wife on board. She was hesitant for months about dropping AT&T cell service to go with Straight Talk for $100 a month in savings.

Only issue I foresee is my 6 year old daughter crabbing that she can't watch the Disney channel right after school before dinner for a half hour.

Netflix for $8 a month. There's a metric shit ton of kids shows on there.

sure, haven't had cable TV for years and I don't watch local channels.

TV is a waste of time for me, but I waste time with other things so to each your own.

I could do without cable, I watch everything I want to watch online anyway, don't see the point in paying for something I use twice a year if that.

I can understand how this trait could really be annoying in a thread titled "Could you live without TV?".

We have amazon prime but have never watched anything on there.
I think once the olympics is over I am going to force the change whether the wife likes it or not. IF she hates it after a month we will re-evaluate.
Can't be missing any olympics hockey.

I can live without cable TV easily enough, I've got my own local recordings of most shows I like and just stream sports. But if by "without TV" you mean "no TV content whatsoever" then probably, but I would be sads.

How do you tell when somebody doesn't "watch TV?"

You don't, they'll inevitably tell YOU.

Only because all you people that spend 10 hours a day sitting on your couch have nothing to talk about but 'your stories'. We get tired of hearing about your pretend families.

I like to watch a small number of shows, I can watch them all via internet/netflix/amazon/hulu.

I still subscribe to a paid TV service because it's a cheap addon to my internet package, and it's the most convenient way to watch "The Daily Show"
