Could you live without TV?

Of course, anyone could physically survive without television.

But could you be happy without watching TV of any kind?

It's becoming more common these days for people to "cut the cable cord" and use streaming services like Netflix to fulfill their TV needs. It got me thinking - I rarely watch TV any more. In fact, I'm starting to consider "cutting the cable cord" and replacing it with nothing. Or maybe just have an antenna for the few times I want to watch local news broadcasts.

Anyone else feel like they would be perfectly fine without having TV in their lives?

I haven't had TV in 15 years, and only sporadically 10 years previous to that.

Have had basic cable included with the rent but never watched it for the past 10 years.
Hate watching a series from week to week. Rather binge watch it over a few days.

All I care about is cable internet. That and Usenet

Internet killed the TV.

I haven't had cable in my house for more than a decade. Actually that's a lie. When I got my fastest service from my ISP, they gave me like 3 months of cable as part of a promotion. I put in like an hour of that time watching shit on CNBC.

Haven't watched TV in the last 3 weeks. I like watching documentaries in HD and capture it to my PC. Netflix/iTunes/Usenet availability and quality sometimes not good enough for me.

The only things I'd miss would be sports, Game of Thrones and Archer. Oh, and the Daily Show/Colbert I suppose. Everything else I could easily replace with books or films and probably be better for it.

I could do it if I really had to, but there are some shows that I really need to watch live or else have them spoiled for me the next day at work.

No. It keeps me company and "with" the world. Not the same as just reading it on internet?

And it exposes me to stuff I'd never have bothered to watch because of the variety and inability to fast forward...

Yes. I watch very little of it now since it is mostly reality shit. Watch it for the local news mostly or have it on in the background when I am reading, on the internet, etc.

When I paid for satellite and cable TV, I felt like I had to watch something in order to justify the cost. It's sort of like when you go to an expensive buffet and you try to eat more than you should trying to get your money's worth. It was the same when I had Netflix and Amazon Prime. Now that I don't pay for TV and just get the free OTA HD channels, I don't feel any pressure watch. Life is better without paying for cable/satellite TV, Netflix, and Amazon Prime streaming.

If you mean for like broadcast TV, then yes, easily, I rarely watch tv as it is. Otherwise no, I use my tv a ton for video games/movies.

Yes, but I also stream TV. I rarely watch flow TV, and I haven't had a TV for several years. I use a TV tuner on my desktop.

I have a TV but since cutting the cord a few months ago watch basically none of it. I watch hulu, netflix, movies all the damn time, but my HD antenna doesn't have DVR and I won't ever go back to large amounts of commercials, so I don't watch any. I don't miss it a bit. Plenty of distractions in life.

Honestly if you just watch the shows online a bit later after normal viewing time you still rely on TV even if you don't have cable or such to watch it live.

Of course. I like outside activities and reading better than tv.

In the past couple weeks, the only TV I've seen is Power Rangers being watched by my kids. I'd have been happier seeing zero TV.

Sports so no. You basically need TV, especially cable TV to watch any decent amount of sports.

I feel crappy after watching tv.

this, I feel that so much of my time was wasted by commercials when I watch TV that it just kills the whole "experience" for me.

We have cable TV at home but the only TV that's hooked up is my roommate's
