I've had these problems for a while, too -- but I'm using an ATi Radeon 64MB DDR, so I doubt it's an NVIDIA issue. I did notice that OpenGL would work fine, but that the error would occur running in Direct 3D mode. After installing a fix which was originally intended to solve the problem of Windows XP running games at 60Hz regardless of the refresh rate set by the user, I no longer had this problem. It can be found here. Maybe it'll do the same for you guys? Otherwise, try playing the game in 16-bit, just to see if it has anything to do with that?

I've just swaped to D3D and the crash after exit seems to be fixed. Now I suffer from the other problem mentioned here that I can't swap servers without coming all the way out to the main menu.

Guess it's better than crashing all the time.

Grpahic quality is terrible though I'm suffering from loads of screen artifacts. It's playable though.

It's the 23.11 drivers that cause this problem. I play ungodly amounts of CS, and help with a league and a website that covers gaming. CS locking up keeps popping up over and over and we've come to the conclusion that it's the 23.11 drivers. I had the same problems, but when I went back to 21.83, they stopped.

Well moving to D3D has solved the crash and loadeding the 60hz refresh fix (Find it in the post above from aakoch) has solved the problem with swaping between servers.

So although D3D quality is down a bit from OpenGl I'm back to a playable non crashing Counter Strike.

(When loading the 60hz refresh fix I needed to set it to 85Hz or as near setting. 100hz resulted in 10% of the CS screen being of the screen which is probably just my monitor settings.)

As for going back to 21.83 I think the reason I went to 23.12 was beacuse of problems under 21.83. I'm happy with it now so I'm not going to try this one out. If anyone else trys 21.83 and finds it fixes the problems on OpenGL post it here.

I had a similiar problem. I found out most of my problems were caused by ezcd creator 5.0.

Do you have that installed?

Right being the nerdy type I had to try it.

I've now tried

2183, 2111,2311,2312 all crash counter strike on exit if your playing under OpenGL.

So I'm back to 2312 drivers, playing under Direct 3D and with the 60hz fix. (Using the closest to 85hz setting)

Everything is now tip top no more crashs and I can swap between servers. Having wasted the last 5 hours on this I'm going to leave it alone now.

Indulge a rookie CSer's question - how does one choose/switch between Direct3D or OpenGL when running a game? Is it a function of the video card/chipset, the application you're running (CS), the OS...???

Thanks,
Jason

Main menu, Configuration, Video, Modes.

You can choose API and screen res.

You can't swap while actualy in the live action part of the game.

Strange But True!!

I also had a problem when i leave one server i cannot enter another without restarting Counter-Strike. My system was set to use
D3D but when i changed to OpenGL it now works fine! I also added "-16" to the command line for starting Counter-Strike, this did
nothing by itself but together with the change to OpenGL life is good!

I would say just try changing from D3D to OpenGL (if you currently have D3D selected) or from OpenGL to D3D (if you currently have
OpenGL selected) as it seems to work both ways for different people. You may then be able to change back to your preferred setting
afterwards and everything will hopefully work great.

Happy Fragging All!

Just loaded the 27.10 Drivers and have been playing CS all night under OpenGL.

Not one crash when leaving Counter Strike. They may well have fixed the bug.

(Only thing I'll add is this is not atualy the same machine as I was doing all the testing on. It's a new 530 that I have moved my Geforce card too.)

Still I think 27.10 has solved the crash problem.
