I will check it out, but I am not expecting much from valve these days. They are about as relevant to me as COD games, and thats really pathetic. They need a new engine for god's sake. All they care about it selling you stuff on STEAM. I see them as a provider and no longer a real game company.

Friend has not really played a PC game since CS.

He was buying a new PC with a Nvidia 520 1g, will that be enough to run this game with 8 gigs for ram and a AMD Dual core FX-4100?

I just think the shield was fun for pubbing

I guess what bugs me is for me the standard (whether original CS or CS:S) is basically Deagle until I can get a Deagle + AK or M4, unless I'm feeling like a dick then it's Deagle + AWP

This seems to ALWAYS be the most efficient combo and the only time I'll pick up another weapon is if I find it on the floor or I feel like screwing around

There are some instances where the SMGs/Shottys can be ok like in close quarters but overall they just like versatility so what's the point?

I was hoping they would change this a little in CS:GO (make other weapons more viable) I guess I will have to see how it is once it launches! From what I read on a couple forums it sounds like the will implement silencers at launch, I hope

One thing I haven't investigated yet in GO is shooting through walls. It always felt like from 1.6 to CS:S they gimped that tremendously, so that you could basically only shoot through thin doors basically and hurt people. I don't know if you consider that good or bad because it cut down the amount of prefire a lot but I think it took out a fun part of the game that made it unique personally

I don't think you'd be running a deagle in a true eco round. Just burning cash. I'll admit wall banging was fun. I wouldn't mind it if they brought it back in full force. There are more guns that are useful now and effective range is different so it does mess with the economics a bit unless we're talking about a pub game. I don't know if they changed it but that's one of the complaints some of the competitive players had about free armor+helm. I think the free ammo was another one way back when source made the change.

Hmm it's interesting... I never thought too much about the economic side of things. I'll have to pay more attention to that in CS:GO

It does freak me out not having to buy kevlar in GO, just like not having to buy ammo in source, lol. Throws off my spam in the beginning of a round

I'm used to a lot of pub servers in source setting 16k cash on respawn anyway, I guess it could make things more interesting in pubs and private games especially

I guess the economy side of things never really phased me in CS:S because I mostly play public and coming from 1.5/1.6 I never have money problems ;P

If you don't like the free kevlar and want to play casual mode then find a server that shuts it off. It's customizable. Otherwise play competitive mode which doesn't do that.

Man, I am so excited for this game - although I'm probably going to pick it up on console. It's been so long since I've played CS back in college, seeing all those old maps remade....instant sell.

CS should always remain CS. They made the decision to stagnate long ago and now they have to stick with it. A true CS2 could have ruled the world like COD, but for some reason it just never happened.

Although I wish some of the really ancient maps made the cut. There are a few that come to mind that don't seem to be there. The one that starts out with a canyon on one side and an underground parking lot on the other...I think it was called assault? Then there was one where the Ts started indoors, the CTs outdoors, and you could either go through the vent on top, under the fence, or through a door in the back....I think that one was siege? And one last one where it was a really wide canyon with some sort of office building on one end, there was a lot of back and forth sniping....don't recall the name though. There was another hostage rescue one, the really distinctive part that I recall was that the hostages were in a little side room of some long hallway with a pipeline running alongside it. Anyone remember these maps or am I losing it?

And who here remembers "gun running" from like beta3-4? They should bring that back too.

And who remembers those really crazy servers where you were like the size of a mouse and the map was one giant kitchen?

Ahhh....those were the days.

you have the first 2 mixed up. canyon map was siege. second map is assault. There used to be driveable vehicles on both of those maps.
Canyon map i'm not sure. Might be siege again. Hostage map might be rotterdam. Mouse maps were the de_rats maps.

I think it might have been called militia? And the hostage one might have actually been a bomb site. I remember that map being all indoors and just crazy confusing.

I could swear there was also some crazy map where you were in alleyways climbing up fire escapes, but I might be getting my games mixed up now. Wasn't there also one where it was night outside, an all the T's were in a house, and you had to sneak around hedgerows to approach the place...and i think there was an underground entrance too?

Siege had an APC in it, but it got removed in one of the later patches (mainly because it was godawful to drive and incredibly buggy). Someone did unofficially release the old one as siege_apc, though.

The alleyways/fire escape map does sound a bit like de_rotterdam. And the final one you're talking about is cs_estate/cs_mansion.

alleys was a hostage map. hedgerows was mansion (sewar entrance on that one). that house map was militia like you said.

there was also vegas. oilrig. cobble. 747. docks. prodigy. havana. some more

I think the driveable truck was a modded map. There was an apc on siege for a while but people would just run each other over.

The fire escape map was cs_backalley, the house at night was called cs_mansion.

I do recall drivable vehicles on seige at one point in the early beta, jesus this is going back to around year 2000 when I first got into online gaming. They removed it in a later beta.

Anyone remember the Colt M4A1 having a built in suppressor and red dot scope? I think even in CS 1.6 the dropped weapon model still has the scope and suppressor on it lol.

Yes, it was back in like beta 2 or so. I remember using it on Assault when I first started playing.

Between that and the mad dash for guns on the floor at the beginning of every round there was SO MUCH TKing.

So....has anyone actually got their grubby hands on the release version yet?

Pretty sure Prodigy and cbble are still in 1.6. I think CS:S also has cbble.

I started in the original beta 1 (not release version 1.0). Anyone remember mansion when it was during the day? And they had the one hallway that was completely black, you couldn't see a thing...always some fool with a TMP crouched there spamming shit everywhere.

And yeah, the silenced AND scoped m4 was ridiculous. Then they decided to introduce the aug and take the scope from the m4. Still my favorite gun though (that and the USP).

Anyone remember the maps cs_desert or cs_bunker? Bunker always frustrated the piss out of me, except when shotgunning...but desert was the BEST! Beta 4 all the way baby!

hahahaha hell yes. Also the converted Goldeneye map....facility I think? All got to the main hallway in front of the hostage room, CT's would get down to 1 guy left and he would gun run like 6 guns at a time back to the CT base so they'd have guns for the next around....all while the dead guys are talking to the alive guys and the dead guys are flying around pushing buttons for elevators and opening doors, freaking the alive guys out. great times!

there really were SO many old maps that were so much fun

Part of what killed the fun of pubbing CS for me was I would inevitably get banned eventually once I topped the server rank for long enough because people were so paranoid about hacking. So I would find a favorite server, play there for a couple months, and then get banned. Have to move on to a new server, and the cycle repeats. And it's because on every server there was always some butthurt accuser

Anyone remember how good it felt to ace a round with like 13 people? Lol

I was banned several times too for accused hacking. I hacked a little bit just to see what it was like, but the vast majority I never hacked - and most times when I was banned I was not hacking. I couldn't blame them though, hacking was rampant.

I remember when bunny hopping was huge. I was so good at it at one point that as a CT on Dust, I could bunny hop to the T spawn and catch 1 or 2 slow weapon buyers, and sometimes luckily sneak up on a few more guys wondering how the hell I got there so fast.

Lol @ the dead guys pushing buttons. Forgot about that! I def remember the names bunker and desert but I don't recall the maps....it's crazy to think this was all well over a decade ago. I'm hoping for tons of map packs over the years for CS:GO....they need to bring more of the old stuff back.

It's a shame cbble isn't in GO, it's a decent map; prodigy I can live without.

I'd also have liked Valve to borrow and remake mill & fire. Although I don't know of the potential hoops they'd have to jump through to get the rights to them (if there even are any?)
