What do I need to install Counter Strike Global Offense? If I have to get it through steam, then forget it

Steam DRM is the best. I love being able to download and play games off of steam without having to worry about activating a stupid license x amount of times before I can no longer play it because of an expiration.

Achievements are fun too.

vendor lock-in secondarily
selling dlc thirdly
multi-player enhancements some distant last. It does work for source titles, I think, but pretty much nothing else.

But then you need Windows to run most of these games as well. Once you put up with Windows, putting up with Steam is almost a trivial exercise.
It does do automatic background patching for many games too. Only those which are broken and use separate launchers (now these are the real criminal - a game that needs a launcher is a broken game..) don't do the automatic updates and make you wait while they patch...

I played UT3 for 5 yrs, there are still players playing it today on Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers DM, and the Official Epic Greed server.

CS, the game which killed quake, has aged much worse than quake itself. The lower TTK and faster reaction time needed has kinda become irrelevant when the action is so repetitive.
Spawn, head for the same effin doorway, camp. At least quake had some 3d movement, which you can enjoy in all its glory - for free - at quakelive.com.

or go play blacklight retribution, also F2P, also bitch-ass low TTK, but at least it's a modern game. With stuff like, maps! And, scopes!
