jeff how is the gameplay of cs source? Thinking of getting it, as my son plays the original cs lots. Also does it adjust the target size for higher res, as my son claims low res makes for better aiming.

CS:Source is CS on the new Half-Life 2 Source engine. it's nothing you can buy right now until HL2 comes out, and they're still beta testing it..

speaking of the stress test, has this leaked anywhere to download?

It's really no different that the original... just much better graphics, more things to interact with... it's basically eye candy. So far anyway... The only map available right now other than custom ones people are already making is de_dust.

Oh, and yes, it's a beta. And it's available to anyone who owns Condition Zero or has one of those HL2 voucher's from purchasing a 9x00XT video card last fall.

That, and I did it for everyone's benefit on here so they can get an idea of how their hardware will run it.

In your stress test your 9800 Pro took a huge hit when 4xAA/16xAF is enabled.

That's correct.

*EDIT* I should clarify, it's not MY stress test, as in something I created like a timedemo, it's the stress test Valve included with CS:S.

I should also mention that AA is still broken... I thought I had it fixed for a while, but somehow it broke again and even forcing AA in ATI's drivers doesn't work, and the game doesn't remember the settings anymore...

I can do 1280x1024, my monitor doesn't support higher than that though. I'll do that later today.

I know it's fast, but it is blooming nice when your Playing counterstrike source, it looks so beautiful and runs so smooth.

Can't wait till HL2

Will try a 2048 x 1536 test and i'll post results for that, see what my computer can "kick out".

Just bought the Bronze HL2 on Steam.

Tried CS:S. The graphics are so clean and simple, like a perfect structure. It's almost annoying to play. There seemed to be a little movement lag or something that implied momentum. Graphics look OK. Doom 3 definitely took the puch, kick and bite out of Source graphics.

Tried the Stress test.

Cats 4.11 - 8xAF, A.I. Advanced, Vsync Off

CS:S - 1280x960, Everything on High

Stress Test - 51 fps average

ya to avoid that movement lag, type CL_SMOOTH 0 and CL_LAGCOMPENSATION 0 in console, makes it much smoother

where Doom 3 lacks in gameplay and replayability, Half-Life 2 picks up. Graphics can only go so far.

I solved Doom 3 in a couple of days, and haven't played it since.

I won't be saying the same for HL2 and all of its mods.

All details maxed, 1280x1024, 0xAA, 4xAF: I get between 57.5 and 58.5 every time.

Add to that that, AFAIK, the CS:s graphics are scaled down for better performance. At least, they'd better be... Those shadows suck.

Using a p4 3ghz, 1GB of memory, and a 6800 GT, all at stock speeds, with 4xAA and 8xAF, I get around 57fps.
