That said, WTF did the officers question the people about what they were doing in the house? Seems to me they were trying to use the topic of the meeting to stop them. In the end, if the cars are parked illegally they should be ticketed and/or towed. If the cars are parked legally there's not much that can be said or done. Some neighbors are inconsiderate assholes. My friend has a renter next door with 3 cars, a boat, and a camper overflowing the driveway to the lawn.

Well, you seemed confused about it. Re-reading your comments simply reinforces that.

Regardless, it wasn't "officers," rather it was an "official." Furthermore, I don't know if I believe whether the official actually asked those questions, remember this is a completely one-sided account, but even if he or she did, it was only to obtain the nature of the meeting and whether it qualified as a religious service or not.

And still, regardless of your feelings on how to handle asshole neighbors, some people aren't so tolerant. I don't think it's overkill to simply complain to the proper authorities and then let them decide for themselves whether it's a violation or not. If someone feels it's a nuisance, I'd rather go through the proper channels to complain and have it dealt with. Wouldn't you?

So... you still think 15 or so people getting together to hang out and talk about the bible should be considered "religious service" and that these people should either have to take it to a church or get a permit?
I'm thinking taxes...huge taxes!!!

Ah, so it's ok for 15-20 people to get together for a regular poker game, sporting event, cookout, etc but they can't have a bible study? Come on. Again, if they broke the law with their parking they should be cited. If not, leave them alone.

I wonder if the neighbor ever considered having large parties at his place shortly before their regular meetings?

A weekly 20-person poker game would probably be reported by a neighbor eventually too.

Then it would be investigated, and if it was causing noise or parking problems they might be asked to get a permit. During the permit process they might have to explain what steps they would take to fix the problems.

Commie Fascism! The horror!

Just a note - that's multiple times you've called the pastor an asshole/asshat. Seriously - you don't know this guy at all, he hosts some of his congregation at his home every week, probably providing a meal to foster friendships, provides emotional and spiritual guidance that they find valuable. But b/c this may cause a nuisance parking for 1 guy that complained for a couple hours in the evening, he's an asshole.

Congrats for being a winning human being. I'm sure your response will be...at least I'm not a nuisance to my neighbor.

If they are violating noise laws by "hootin and hollerin", then site them for that.

If they violate parking laws, site them for that.

If it is 15 people peacefully assembling in a home, it really isnt yours or the governments business what they are doing, as long as they are not violating any laws. Saying they are violating the law just by having 15 people together, no matter the frequency, is ludicrous at best.

I did no such thing. You need better reading comprehension skills. -1 points for you.

See the bolded part above? Yeah, I was replying to that. The generic "asshole neighbor."

Get your panties in a bunch much?

15 people isnt bible study, its church.

I take it you don't have kids. Try having a kids birthday party at your house. You'll EASILY exceed 15 people. The bible study is all done indoors, Kids birthday parties will spill out in the the front and backyards at somepoint and the kids are going to be a lot louder than adults at a bible study.

I don't subscripe to any religion but what people do in their own home is their business. As long as they are not foricibly making people participate, it's not the county's problem.

So what about a kid's birthday party? Say little Timmy had 10 friends over for his 6th birthday party. Each kid has a parent with them. Uh oh...20+ people are at Timmy's house. Better call the Po Po!!!

Seriously it's ridiculous that the freaking sheriff would get involved in something like that. I would think that maybe, just maybe the law enforcement officials in and around San Diego would have something better to do. Like...oh...I dunno....hunt down illegals, stop car theft, shut down meth labs, find Ryan Seacrest and kill him, etc, etc, etc....you know...real police work.

bday parties happen once a year not once a week. read my post again. its a nuisance to have that activity every week, if that many people attend they should go to their church.

the sheriffs dept job is to enforce all the laws not just the ones you seem to think arent that important.
What laws are they enforcing? The right to peaceful assembly?
With California's huge deficit, this just seems like a way for the governments there to extort money.

So why can't he have 15 people over? Because you said so and it is your block?

According to my high school policy, more than two students gathered together constituted a gang and was forbidden. It is a violation of the constitution when applied to kids too.

What some of you people don't understand is...... It might be 15 people today but what happens when these people start inviting/recruiting and getting the rest of the hoods in? The next thing you know you got 3-500 people stomping and clapping every Sunday.

No thanks.

Take it to a real church and get a permit.

It is no longer a small group Bible study then. Start thinking with your brain before you answer a question. You cannot have a Small Group discussion with more than a bunch of people!!

He said there was maybe 4 additional cars for the 15 guests he has.

The collective IQ on this board seems to be in free fall - have some common sense people!!

Looks like a group that is disturbing the peace is hiding behind religion, when the reason for the gathering is irrelevant.

Wow, I have 10-20 people over almost every Sunday to watch football. I hope I don't need to get a permit next season.
