Hi,

I have finished my post graduate in VLSI design, and planning to do a course in VLSI , which can give me professional training experience, can anyone suggest me a course (current trend on VLSI companies). Thanks in advance .

[sorry for asking in wrong place :|]

I think there's a language barrier. To me, a "course" is a series of lectures at a university/school. That or a direction of travel. Is this equivalent to an internship or something?

And yeah, this is probably better off in "off topic".

It's an internship course, in a vlsi training center .
I apology for my language and off topic post.

Do you mind telling us what country you're in? I don't think we have what you're asking about in the US.

From his username, he's most likely from India.
Not sure where to look - perhaps a company in Bangalore?

I think practically every major VLSI company has a site in Bangalore. I know that Intel has a VLSI design team over there. Apply to all of them!
Same goes for Maxim. We have a bunch of designers and physical design guys there.

Yep I almost applied to all the VLSI companies at bangalore, but most of the companies are expecting only the experienced persons or they are recruiting directly from the institutions. So I'm planning to join in a institution and also to gain the professional experience.

I did a FFT based project "An Efficient Pipelined FeedForward FFT architecture Using Split-Radix Algorithm" in my Post Graduation, I created a MDC architecture for FFT structure, architecture was coded in verilog and used Modelsim tool to compile and verify it.
I don't know whether Companies prefer Front end or Back end designing (which one will have more scope in companies), someone suggest me ?

I guess it depends on the company and what group they have at the Bangalore site. Short term (~2 months) internship/courses in back-end is pretty hard to get approved in my group due to exposure to process technology. On the other hand, based on your work, maybe front end work is what you wanted to do anyways. I've been doing both and I've seen equal demand for both roles but the back-end interns usually had extended internships (summer + fall).

I had enquired on some institutions for internship courses, they have offered me an 6 months training support on Front end training and most of them are using Mentor Graphics and Xilinx tools only. They told in Front end there is Designing and verification part are available, so in that which will be more reliable (Designing or Verification).

Both options are fully independent career options. I know some people treat verification as a 2nd class citizen to design or that verification is just a stepping stone to design. However from my experience, demand for verification usually outpaces the demand for design. It's always in the critical path and it only gets worse as designs get more complicated. Innovation to speed up verification is VERY VALUABLE.

On top of that, the best verification people that I know chose verification as a career and not a stepping stone to design. Those people are very well rewarded and I believe their accomplishments is tied to that mindset that have for verification. But it's definitely a "it depends if you like it, and liking it sort of depends on whether or not you're good at it".

I don't suppose the course/internship has some sort of rotation program so you can get a first hand look at which one you like to do better? Your career isn't set in stone but at least in the short term, you can try to secure a job doing something you like to do.
