I like Gob's version of Paint it Black, although I do love the sitar in the original (rol. stones)

Dynamite Hack - Boyz In The Hood

Ever hear the original? Sure some people may think its butchered, but I think the cover rocks

For some reason, I like Insane Clown Posse's (is that their name?) version of "Let's go all the way" better than the one that Foxtrot did.

I typically hate music like that, but they make it kind of dark.

Edit: Dream Theater's cover of Love Lies Bleeding (Elton John, IIRC) is very good too.

Scooter - I'm Raving (cover of Marc Cohn's Walkign In Memphis)
Scooter - Rebel Yell (some other 80's song)
Scooter - The Logical Song (Supertramp)

Nightwish - Phantom of the Opera (not sure if it's an actual remake of one of the songs from the opera, sounds like it though)

I think if you want to list a group that never did any good cover songs, and that would be "Steps".

Damn they sucked

How about "Grapevine"- Aretha Franklins version is as diametrically opposed to Marvin Gaye's version as the Creedence Clearwater Revival version is. Another song played three completely different ways ,yet each one is so damn good!

ooops, I forgot Nirvana's cover of Bowie's The Man who Sold the World.

Holy crap! me too. However, I have yet to hear the original, so I don't know which one is better.

I've heard the original and Nirvana's cover is really better.

IMHO the original (Leonard Cohen) is better.

WTF are you smoking??? You're nuts.

My choices are:

1) Hazy Shade of Winter- Bangles (originally done by Simon and Garfunkle)

2) Last Kiss- Pearl Jam (J. Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers)

I agree with this one. TOOL's version is so freaking awesome I could cry. Metallica's Turn The Page is another great cover.

I cried too when I heard it.........because they made a mockery of that song, it was so freaking awful.

King's X - Manic Depression (Jimi Hendrix?).
Yes, it was a Hendrix song. Never heard the cover, but since this is one of my favorite Hendrix songs, I'd have to say it can't be nearly as good

Agreed. Dylan coudln't sing well, but he is one of the best songwriters of his (or any) time.
