My timetable of recovery is still faster than some of the vaxxed posters in this thread. The scratchy throat is reduced and the ache in the mouth can be felt in full.

I know COVID is dead when the aches are fully felt becaude whike active, the virus has a partial painkiller effect.
That's not how any of this stuff works.

The whole point of the vaccine is to reduce your risk of hospitalization of death, and for that it does quite well.

Because it came from someone who "got impatient and decided to throw poop at the wall."
lol.....

No surprise here, either, no vax. And no covid...I think. 2/2022 got, what seemed to be, my usual most years allergies/sinus infection/upper respiratory crud. Didn't test...if you're sick, stay home. Woah, novel concept. Wash you hands and don't kiss strange women. Anyway, only reason I think it may have been covid is my blood pressure went through the roof after. Changed meds, etc and after 2 months, it stabilized. No problem since. My CSR had the same thing happen in 2023. Asked my DR, she said, "Who knows?"

Don't think I'm discounting covid's seriousness/deadliness. Older, comorbidities.... Friend had chronic bronchitis for years, he didn't make it. Ma's BFF of 60 years, blood clots killed her after she'd mostly recovered. We all know someone that didn't survive.

Probably never know but...why would a healthy 40yo male die from covid and no one else in the house even get sick? Genetics, predisposed to some function of the virus that's deadly?

OT but the flu is rampant. Run those humidifiers.

Another Q...wife and sis in law both had covid a couple of times. They both had horrible nightmares while sick. Anyone here?

I had a lot of dreams. Not nightmares, but vivid fever dreams are a common thing I think.

A lot of people think they are exercising some kind of agency over the disease lol. It's like people I know who are terrified of air travel but hop in the car no problem where they are way way more likely to die. The illusion of control is pretty powerful and inhibits how well we assess risk.

Lessening the severity of symptoms is an inference derived from reducing risk of hospitalization or death; people die because the symptoms were too severe. Maybe I could have shaved off a few more hours of symptoms, saved myself a day of lost time, and avoided taking an ibuprofen pill.

The only time I tested positive was a year ago in December.

I was getting ready to help out my daughter before and after a minor surgery. At the time, hospitals were still canceling procedures for patients who tested positive on the day of their procedure. So when I told my daughter that I had a slight head cold she insisted that I test for COVID (as she did not want to test positive at the hospital). I was sure that it wasn't necessary, but she kept insisting. Well, surprise! I tested positive. Otherwise I would have never known (and maybe I had it other times?).

My only symptoms were a little stuffiness and some sneezing. I tested negative three days later.

I was fully vaxed and boosted at the time (and had booster/flu/RSV this fall). I feel damn lucky that COVID apparently doesn't hit me hard (so far).

I still tested positive with the rapid tests I got today.

I got periodic bouts of coughing, feel a bit tired, but things have been getting lighter daily. Ibuprofen I take as necessary.

Worst time is waking up, because that's when the roof of the mouth hurts the most.

It's really weird, my mom also got sick with something, but she tested negative for COVID and is still symptomatic with whatever she has.

I had it in Dec '22. I was in the Pfizer trial and had the trial Delta booster in Fall '21. My experience was a medium strength cold with some extra tiredness on top. After a few days I was just tired to the point of having to rest after a shower but otherwise felt fine. It took about a week to go from first symptom to feeling like I was over it.

Since then I have been in direct contact with others that are actively positive without precautions to no ill effect.

Had two shots and a booster. Got hit with Covid prob two years ago and was down for 10 days with cough and ache. Have been Covid free since. I did come down with a cold couple weeks ago but mustered thru - did regular testing all thru but rona never came up positive. Still waiting for my spidey sense superpower to develop from the shots. I am disappoint.

Did you ever consider the fact that getting vaccinated reduces the chance of spreading of covid to others like family members or coworkers? It's not just for yourself.

Also, individual anecdotes != data. We have real clinical data from large trials to know the real effects of the vaccine, and real-world data across large populations to serve as a secondary verification. The only reason to play up anecdotes like those is to justify to one's self the reason to not get vaccinated.

Sounds like your recovery isn't fast at all, like you claimed. Been a week now at least.
My wife and I were both vaxed, but caught it in March '23. She recovered in 4 days, and was negative again.
I was prescribed Paxlovid, and was negative after 3 days. Only had mild symptoms for 2 days.

So much for your quicker than average recovery.

The most annoying symptom of tonsil ache while yawning is gone. The sore throat rapidly disappeared yesterday.
I guess the virus evolved so that it can spread when the host is still infected but feels better.

That's different from the prior confirmed infections, when the coughing showed up only after testing negative.

Seems like I caught JN.1.

caught it on November 2022. Killer sore throat and serious sinus pain. Lost my sense of taste for the duration. It felt like a serious cold. It lasted 2 weeks in total. I had only 4 doses at that time.

I am now 6 doses and the flu vaccine. So far this year I had 1 mild cold.
