This is one for the history books. Chapter 25 - "What the hell was that all about"

Law and order Trump supporter?

My most deplorable friend regarding public policy would absolutely do this. He even looks similar to this guy.
He doesn’t wear MAGA gear but I could see him doing it to troll people.
Amazing how these older men troll like young teens and they have no shame about it.

If all the participants could be trusted to quarantine for two weeks beforehand, I don't see why not. As an additional precaution, get a covid test at the end of the two weeks?
And don't trust the airlines saying how safe it is to travel. Being locked up for 2-5 hours in a petri dish doesn't sound safe to me. No matter how much they can circulate the air during the flight. And if it could be guaranteed no one could remove their masks still wouldn't trust them.

Somebody actually went to the trouble of manufacturing that inflatable? I wonder what are the chances it was made in China?

As close to 100% as I can get without seeing the Made in China stamp.

Impossible it would have been made anywhere but China.
Who has the time to figure out how to make and distribute something like that other than a guy who makes $10 per day.

You know the Drake Equation? That estimates how many advanced civilisations there are in the universe? One term in there that is very uncertain is longevity - how long sentient species survive. Maybe we are finding what the value of that term is? Maybe we are hitting some sort of 'hard limit', a point at which society reaches a stage of technological and sociological development where people, as a collective lose the capacity to cope with threats?
That the reaction to COVID is so irrational does not bode at all well for the hope of addressing climate-change.

So SCOTUS struck down limits Cuomo had imposed on indoors religious gatherings and the Gorsuch concurrence qualifies for this thread.

It is so totally fucking stupid it defies belief and makes me angry I actually have to defend one of the worst governors in the country.

In a Pandemic, The Constitution is not a suicide pact. A legal suicide/murder cult. How quaint.

It seems that Gorsuch is making it about religious gatherings were being singled out for indiscriminate restrictions, while a different and more situationally-aware restriction was applied to non-religious gathering places like liquor and hardware stores. He seems to be saying: If Cuomo had limited attendance at houses of worship based on capacity in the same way as in other buildings, then this wouldn’t be a Constitutional issue? But he limited churches and synagogues to 10 people maximum.

Meh ... weak sauce. The Majority claimed that churches were treated more harshly than liquor stores, but no one goes to liquor stores for an hour, sitting next to each other singing, touching and hugging etc. The comparison was BS. The dissent said that churches were treated more leniently than similar secular venues, considering other situations where people stay for hours together (movie theaters, live, indoor concerts) are all closed.

Constantly surprised by how dumb Supreme Court justices turn out to be.

Why give so much power to unelected ideologues? Seems like a warning of the dangers of a written constitution (EU take note). All they do is embed the vested-interests of powerful groups from past eras, then they ossify and become increasingly unfit-for-purpose over time.

Yeah amazing, with Barrett herself and other justices knowing that her south lawn event became a COVID superspreader outdoor event. With most experts believing this will be the deadliest period during the pandemic -- precisely because people are gathering indoors.

Trump's Thanksgiving message ... "I encourage all Americans to gather, in homes and places of worship, to offer a prayer of thanks to God for our many blessings."

Trump just can't get enough death of Americans

What I primarily notice about people who make the kind of argument Gorsuch does over the last months is that they also often fundamentally disbelieve the seriousness of the virus. I'd bet if you could ask him questions he'd say something like "Well the fatality rate is low so who cares".

Wonder if NYS lawyers threw in their face that Jewish wedding of the son of the head Rabbi. 7,000 people attended that wedding!!!!!!! Like it won't happen, but state government needs to allow hospitals to reject patients if they are part of these superspreader events.

Yeah, The majority seems to be butthurt about Cuomo and general victimhood more than following science. When they are smart enough to know that with the internet, radio, TV, etc there are plenty of alternative methods for people to practice religion.

That wedding was irresponsibly done in defiance of covid restrictions.

From what I understand the zone Gorsuch mentions where churches and synagogues are limited to 10 people maximum regardless of capacity, restaurants are limited to take-out and delivery regardless of capacity and all other gatherings are prohibited. Where houses of worship are limited to the lesser of 25 people or 33% of capacity, restaurants are not permitted to have indoor dining and residential and non-residential gatherings are limited to 10 people. In the yellow zone, houses of worship are restricted to 50% capacity with no maximum number, so a house of worship with a capacity of 1000 can have 500 people while an event space with the same capacity of 1000 can only have 25 people.

So it seems ... Religious gatherings were singled out alright - to have fewer restrictions, not more.

Edit I read your quote wrong. Representing the same point

But churches have shown higher infection rates than restaurants. And people at churches and bars have been more flagrent in their ignoring capacity restrictions.

These lawsuits against the restrictions, they need to become anonymous. Well in the sense that you need to remove that they are representing a church. Because if only looked at the basic numbers, places are being held to the same requirements. But once it's known it's a church, everyone starts claims constitution rights. Not like these same people will defend strip clubs for the same requirements.
