As I mentioned, it is precisely because COVID is not the flu that it would be more amenable to eradication. COVID (and I believe all coronaviruses) have an RNA checking mechanism somewhat akin to what humans have in our cells to prevent replication mistakes. This drastically reduces the mutation rate for COVID as compared to influenza.Isn't it a simple matter, COVID is not those other viruses?
It spreads too easily and replicates too fast within the human body. Total, lasting, immunity is not likely something that could ever be achieved.
Let us know when the Flu or Cold viruses are eradicated. COVID is their big brother, and will forever be with us until medical science advances beyond current limitations.
Like Measles, COVID is the flu's big brother in terms of virulence and transmissibility but it is the flu's little brother in its ability to mutate quickly. And Measles is a good example of a disease we have been able to almost entirely eradicate in the developed world.
So... I guess... same question again.
