I dunno man, I do listen to music that would be considered Satanic, much more quickly. Yet, out of respect to others tastes I only listen to classic rock at work, yet THESE DEMONS KEEP HARASSING ME!!!! Oh another time, I told her to use "the wizard" in a piece of software to create a form..she called the company and complained that their software used wichcraft terms.

eeesh yeah, she is extreme. theres much bigger things to worry about than van halen music, or wizards in software. but seriously, dont take this as "the norm" for average christians.

agreed. i think the problem with the evangelicals is they've kind of taken over the term "Christian" to describe themselves, leaving the other Christians to take more specific names. Catholics, Episcopalians, Pres., etc. are all Christians but much milder and less "to the letter of the law." I think the Evangelicals are a little radicalized and leave people with a negative view of all Christians, because they've taken the name.

Neeea, I bet if you had responded differently you could have persuaded her to let you keep listening instead of challenging her, you have to tread lightly around those types.

Even if she is rather close minded. She is the type that puts a bad face on Christianity. I find her reasoning to be rather laughable.

I am religious and a republican.

Looks like I have two strikes against me in the 6StringSamurai book.

not at all, take my quotes in my sig as being toward the extremist in each category. I hate religion, all forms, and that stems from my past, but that is a different topic. I may hate your religion, but unless you are in the aformentioned "zealot, shove it down your throat" class, then we are a - ok. (P.S. My parents are penecostal childrens church pastors aka, zanies ) Oh, and that Jesus Camp documentary, it literally almost gave me nightmares, I was brought up in an identical setting and mindset, and went to a similar brainwashing camp. my parents are not as bad as they used to be, aka they do not hold all night prayer sessions because I listen to van halen)

Edit: except racists, I hate all of them

Well, sadly those types have been the norm in my setting for over 20 years. If, and this is a HUGE if, I was to ever tie myself to a religious, christian affiliation it would most likely be episcopalian, or however you spell it.

and filed appropriately, you may now return to your communist regime, have a nice day.

Wow...way to start with the name calling...

You are paid to WORK...not listen to music and disrupt others. If your employer has allowed you to listen to music in the past, then they have been generous. However, read your Employee handbook--no where in it will you find a policy advising that listening to music while you work is an employee benefit. Whether your co-worker is a nut or not is irrelevant; your choice in music has caused tension in the office, and therefore your boss has every right to tell you that you can not listen to it any longer.

Welcome to corporate America.

That is pretty funny. If I were you, I would complain that her worship music is disrupting the work of the devil, and the boss must hold your religion on the same terms as the others. And on your last day of work, as you are walking out, put on a fvcked-up satonic mask and scare the sh!t out of that woman. "you are filling the air with demonic spirits" rofl

Way to read the thread, others in the office listen to christian music loud enough for others in the cube around them to hear it. I listen to classic rock in my cube where only I can hear it. You argument is irrelevent and does not hold water. If the policy was no music in the workplace I would be fine with that as it would apply to all parties involved. That however is not the policy, and had you taken the time to read before making your comments, you would not look like you do not have a clue now. Now, as I was saying, my boss, did not say that all of the music in the room was bad, just mine. So others are allowed to listen to religious music, while I am told to shut off classic rock. So, Mr. "Welcome To Corporate America" I would like to hear you argue the fact were preferential treatment is given to employees based on religious preference.

How bout you do us all a favor, and read the whole thread before bending over and deciding to crap in it.

That was pure gold! I never imagined something like that can happen in real life. That is straight from a comedy show.

I had no idea you were in NC until you mentioned this. Goddamn it I hate NC for several reasons, and this is one of them.

I listened to NIN's "Head Like a Hole" years ago while at work (lived in Charlotte at the time) when nobody else was there. A driver showed up while it was still playing and I got reprimanded the next day. Owner of the company (also a preacher...) had to "exorcise the demons" the next day.

You didn't say that his decision is ruining your morale and that they're discriminating you based on religious beliefs?

Dude buy some "As I lay dying" songs. Turn it up and BLAST it. They will instantly come over and say that it is satanic music.

Then bust out the lyrics and or quotes from the band. They are a Christian Metalcore band. My wife deals with this type of crap everyday. Everyone thinks my wife listens to satanic music when all they listen to is rap about bangin hos and crap.

Too bad much of the music we listen to is much tamer lyrically than most rap.

Come in to work tomorrow with "666" written on your forehead.

I love the psycho's. You should have said it was something she liked. Then she puts on headphones and has the demonic spirits pumped right into her (empty) head.

Couldn't you say that her idiocy is affecting your morale?

Sennheiser HD 280 Pro's. They are huge, but you can get a lot of sound out of them without any of it escaping. They do have a long break-in period though - when you initially get them, you'll wish for the rich, full bass of your cheap $2 earbuds. My HD 280's sounded horrible right out of the box, it was like someone had put in a bandstop filter to stop all frequencies below about 400Hz. After a few weeks they finally sound like I'd expect.
They might not like you wearing them though, because you also will be less likely to hear pages or a phone ringing, or idiots complaining about demons wafting into the room.

Ok, more things to do:
- Print out satanic symbols and hang them around your cubicle
- Set up candles (don't light them though)
- Satanic Windows theme
- Put a pentagram sticker onto your mouse. Just casually ask her for help at your PC and see if she freaks out after touching the mouse.
- Tell this woman that you pray to the TRUE Lord every night, and that you are hoping to set up a portal in your cubicle so that He and His Minions may enter freely into this realm
- Put on devil horns, sneak up behind her. "BOO!" See if she splashes holy water on you.
- Pour holy water on yourself in front of her and yell about how it burns, and then just get up, laugh, and walk away.

I did read the whole thread. You are not paying attention to the point. There was a complaint about YOUR music, and thus you were told not to play it. You did not indicate that you complained about the other people's music; as such, you have no gripe about their music. You were told that yourmusic was affecting morale, which is true. Your co-worker did not appreciate it, and therefore it was causing hostility. The double-standard argument will only kick in IF you complain about HER music and she is also told that she has to stop playing it. If the complaint is made and she is allowed to continue listening, then the double-standard has been established and a complain to HR may be warranted.

Regardless, your BOSS told you to stop listening to it, and whether you like it or not, you should comply or leave. You admit that you only have 3 weeks left AND you admit you need the job. Just suck it up for 3 weeks or buy headphones and get over it.

The key here is to complain about her music to everyone. Your boss. His boss. His boss's boss. Etc.

Also, keep listening to the music. From now on, ignore her whenever she enters your cube.

ha, no thanks, I need the job for the next few weeks.

at least what kind of a bank was it?

either boa or wachovia?

Yes it was one of those.

i am willing to put money on wachovia, they seem to have a hillbilly history. hahaha. is this in their commercial banking practice or something else? just curious about ibanking culture across banks.

Heh...actually, I'm willing to bet it was Bank of America, considering they are based out of Charlotte. Wachovia is based out of Winston Salem.

I would have told your boss that she is discriminating against your religious beliefs, and if she didn't like it, that she could have her day in court. She is creating a double-standard by allowing Christian music to be played, and that is exactly what lawsuits are made of.

I think you could squeeze some cash out of them...after all, Clemmie Spangler Jr., the owner of BoA, is the 335th richest man in the world.
