Does anyone know a cows and bulls algorithm? The game is player computer vs player: the computer has to guess the player's number.

Before you all start sending me to search for it you should know I've spent hours looking for one.

Thank you for your reply, but no. There is a reason I want the algorithm: most of the sources out there are in languages that I don't know to program or the code is very difficult to understand.

Of course I knew about it, but the first one can't be applied to what I need (numbers of different lengths) and the second one I can't understand it 100%. If you can decipher it that would be great.

Why would someone decipher it for you? Just sit down, look at the code and figure it out yourself. There is a difference between knowing how to read code and knowing how to program. If you don't know the language very well it's hard to program in an unknown language. However, most of the languages have the same basics, so reading code shouldn't be that hard.

Now on the algorithm from the wiki, it looks like you'll need to use the minimax with alpha beta cutoff algorithm for this.

Well now it sounds like you want someone to do your homework for you. . . sorry.

Yeah it sounds like you need a new major if you're not willing to do this yourself or consult your professor. There are enough awful developers in existence, we don't need anymore.

Now why would you say that?! Do you know me?
That's very helpful !!...

If you don't know/want to help then you're useless and your "advice" not welcomed nor wanted.

A lot of people wander in here essentially asking for the forum to do their homework for them. You were given pointers to numerous resources about the problem, and you came back with, essentially, "those are too complicated, tell me the answer".

If you ask specific questions you are more likely to get help. You asked for an algorithm, you were given references to the algorithm. Coming back and just saying "I don't get it" is not helpful and implies that you are an inexperienced programmer (and thus likely to be a student trying to get help doing their homework).

Exactly what Matthias99 said. You're not asking for help, you're asking for us to do the work for you because you're not good enough at computer science to figure it out on your own. Stop being lazy and do your own damn work. If you can't figure it out now then we've just saved you the dissapointment of when you start failing all of your classes.

On the other hand, if you have specific questions then plenty of members, including me, would love to help you out. The "I don't understand" excuse doesn't cut it. It makes it seem like you either didn't look or you are too overwhelmed to be helped. If that's the case, and you are overwhelmed with your work, then you need to speak to your Professor immediately and get the help you need. Otherwise switch majors.
