Cox Cable and DLink Router

Got a new laptop with XP on it, and havea dlink DL-704 router. I cannot get online with the router, if i plug the cable modem into the laptop, it automatically finds its way online, but for some reason it wont with the router. Someone please help me

You may have to spoof the PCs Mac address or otherwise configure your router to work with the modem. Check your router's docs about how to spoof the Mac address. Your router's company's web pages may include info on what you need to do to make your router with your specific ISP -- at least I know Netgear has such info.
