My parents have verizon because when we got it it was faster and there was some kind of package deal. Then Cox was permanently given permission to use their lines. If Cox is cheaper, is it worth switching back to? Do they treat returning customers as well as first time customers? Sometimes download speeds exceed more 3MBps with my setup, and that's good. I'd be okay with 7/8 the speed which I'm sure Cox offers.

I'd have to back up all of my emails if my parents have Verizon pull the plug. My parents were wondering if going back to Cox would be worthwhile. We switched from Cox 3 years ago so we have no idea what it's like now.

If it is cheaper then maybe, it would have to be greater then 10 bucks a month for me to bother though.

Why wouldn't saving $5/month be enough for you to bother?

Because I have verizon cell, landline, cable, and internet. I would rather just keep it all in one place and I like verizon customer service, never had a problem with them once.

here is my opinion between the 2:

You will have better internet experience with fios.
If you are satisfied with non-digital cable cox will save you $ on the cable side unless you only have 1 or 2 tvs connected (although with yet another price increase lately this is starting to lose traction)

I have tmobile@home for phone service and would dread paying more than my $8 a month for a "land" line anymore.

There's no comparison to Fios in peak hours. My experience = Fios is 3-6X faster on Netflix streaming @15/5 plan. Off peak, they're the same but I need internet at all times so Fios easily won my business. In all, it was about $10 more per month but well worth not having streaming freeze up while eating dinner.

Unless Verizon has seriously pissed you off and/or Cox is substantially cheaper without any promotions, I would stay with Verizon.

FIOS is better than copper. However, your parents are paying the bill, not you. Unless you are going to cover the difference. Cox is not going to treat ex customers any different than new customers in terms of rates.

OP: Im confused. Does Cox have their own infrastructure there? Or is it exactly as you said in your OP:
Then Cox was permanently given permission to use their lines.

If the former is true, as others have said FIOS will have better throughput during peak times. If the latter is true, its irrelevant. Go with whoever is cheaper.
