is AMD 1.4 good?

It depends on what you mean by 'good'

Does it have good performance - yes.
Is it a good value - yes.
Will it be 'gooder' then an intel 1.8 ghz P4 - yes
Does it have good heat control - no.

Yeah, after watching TomsHardWare video of the Athlon 4 instantly smoking after removing the heatsink I nearly messed my pants. I actually shut down my PC and opened it up to be double sure my heatsink/fan was installed correctly!

Watch AMD CPU's go up in smoke here.

Mind you, I still prefer AMD, best bang for the buck out there... just be sure of your CPU cooling!

I'm going to assume you are talking about AMD Athlon processors.

The simple answer is: Not much.

The more complex answer is: It depends on the kind of processor, and what FSB speed it's running at.

The 1.4 (266 MHZ FSB) only offers a slight performance advantage over the 1.33. In some applications the 1.33 GHz CPU will beat the 1.4 (200 MHz FSB) CPU, so depending on which FSB version you have will determine which one is better.
