Been awhile since I made a thread for help.
So my main rig started out fine, a nice OC to 4.2 ghz on a 2500k with the old revision 1 motherboard with bad SATA ports from intel. I customized a lot of things so when that debacle came around I just used the SATA ports not supplied by intel. Then I got random crashed or restarts, though prime 95 was stable (yes it does mean it IS stable though). NO extra volts were needed, stock voltage.
ok fine, I wasn't gaming so back to stock for stability. Things work fine for a few years then i start getting more restarts or more recently, computer turns off then if I try to turn it on it will start up and BIOS says something about my overclocking failed and to go into BIOS and adjust settings.
Go into bios and exit, computer starts fine at stock. Rinse repeat as it becomes more frequent. then one day I start the computer, fans run, HDD spin up, nothing goes to the LCD as it's searching for signal.
So I bought a used motherboard from here, a nice upgrade but now the computer powers on, remains on for 10 seconds then turns off, repeat indefinitely. LCD is also still searching for signal from the MB based video or from a graphics card. Sadly, I do not have an extra socket 1155 chip to test. Ram works fine in my AMD 7400k system.
So I am afraid it may be the CPU, or it may be the powersupply (it is 6 years old) though no power supply tester to check. I can go try the AMD board with it though, though I have been wanting a reason to go with a modular PS, though that may not solve the issue.
So opinions on what to try to test to see if the CPU was toasted.
