I am having a strange problem which I am hoping someone here can help me figure out. I just built a new PC with the following specs. Intel Q6600, Gigabyte p35-ds4, 2gb G skill pc6800, nvidia 8800GTS, and a sunbeamtech NUUO power supply. The problem is this when I hit the power button I get a one second squealing noise which I believe to be the CPU fan warning. After hitting the power button everything but the CPU fan starts. About 3-4 seconds later I get the motherboard post beep (just one beep) and the CPU fan starts turning. When running I go into one of my pc health monitoring tools and they show my CPU fan is spinning at about 800RPM which is clearly way too slow. However, the idle temp never goes above 39c and under load I never get above 45c. I can't figure out what is going on here.
One additional piece of information is that when I first put the machine together it wouldn't post at all when I only used the 20+4 pin main power connector. To get it to post I had to plug in the 4 pin eps12v. It is my understanding that a q6600 should not require the EPS12v to run.
So I have no idea what is going on here beyond a sneaking suspicion that my power supply is bad and not supply enough power. Any ideas?
