CPU Fan speed control with latest BIOS on Gigabyte P35-DS3

i have a p35-DS3 rev. 2.1 with F12 bios too. CPU e8500. Is there any solution to control the CPU - Fan speed?
I can only change the CPU Smart Fan Control to enable or disable, there are no more settings like smart fan control mode. This is what i altough see, if i download the current manual vor the board. On the pictures wich shown the PC Health Status, there is to see what i see, no more option / setting as said above. So my CPU Fan speeds up and i can't control it with EasyTune5, but the manual says it should work:
"CPU Smart FAN Control
Enables or disables the CPU fan speed control function. Enabled allows the CPU fan to run at
different speed according to the CPU temperature. You can adjust the fan speed with EasyTune
based on system requirements. If disabled, CPU fan runs at full speed. (Default: Enabled)"

Now my question is, is there any solution for the problem? Is it a problem comming from the new E8500 CPU?

The DS3 and many other Gigabyte's P35 boards have gotten a new BIOS revision to support the new 45mm quad-cores. Has anyone tested those new BIOS revisions? Any difference in fan control?

Well, I jumped on the gun and updated my DS3's BIOS to F13a. Haven't noticed any difference to F11.

But I'm losing my nerves due to my E8200's retail cooler. Supposedly Core 2 Duo retail coolers should be rather good quality and silent. However, mine revs up over 2000rpm when I'm gaming or doing something CPU intensive. At 2000rpm and over the retail cooler becomes very audible and in fact the loudest part in the case.

Is anyone else using retail C2D cooler, Gigabyte DS3(R/P/anything) and E8x00 45mm CPU? How are your fan RPM's and noise levels?

Those retail coolers aren't heatsinks, they're toys! Get an Arctic Cooling Alpine 7 or something to cut down the noise for cheap...

I really wanted to avoid the hassle of pondering what is a good heatsink/cooler combo and is also compatible with my motherboard and case, aka it fits without headaches. I checked that Alpine 7, can't find it in stock except for an AMD version of it. Any other recommendations? And if I have to have heatsink and cooler replaced, I'd prefer to get something I can also use a few years in the future with 45mm quad cores.

Edit: Should I expect any incompatibility problems if I order this?

I have the EP35-DS3 motherboard with the F2 BIOS and I installed an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro on my E8400.
In the BIOS I enabled CPU smart fan control, my processor is running at 3.6GHz and my CPU fan is spinning idle at around 750rpm and stressed in e.g. Orthos around 1000rpm.
