CPU fan stops during boot after installing WinXP-pro

My mom wanted to upgrade the OS (Win98 to WinXP)on her Comp.( PIII 600 on a GA-6BXE w/128 MB RAM, Leadtex s-320 II (TNT2 Ultra), so i formated the HD and installed WinXP pro, but now an alarm startsafter the XP logo on black background disappears and at the same time the CPU Fan stops!

Have anyone had a similar experience?

How do I fix it??

the fan shuts off and then windows stops booting? The alarm usually means that the processor is getting too hot. You can change that setting or turn it off in the bios, but if it's getting too hot, I wouldn't recommend it. Windows XP is a little too much for that system I think. 2K would have been a better choice. Go into the bios on bootup and see what the CPU temp is. The alarm COULD be set really really low, at like 40 degs. That's happened to me before. Set it higher if that's the case and see what happens.

The boot process continues and the pc works ok, but the CPU Fan is not spinning and the alarm keeps sounding.
I plugged the CPU fan on the Power Fan pin on the Motherboard to keep the CPU cool and the alarm is still going.
So I do not think it is a temp. problem but som kind of program setting!??!?
Is it a bios problem?? Why does the CPU Fan stop, is it a setting in WinXP?

Futher, I am planning to add another 128 mb of RAM so it should be able to run XP.

Well, Abhi thanks for your input!!

The computer ran XP OK, but it still stopped the CPU fan after booting into XP, so I was advised to update the BIOS, and I flashed the BIOS with the newest version and then it died and wont boot, not even on a floppy!!

I have tried reseting the CMOS on a jumper but it changes nothing!!
So I guess my mom needs a new computer, or at least a new MB, CPU and RAM

UGH! Looks like the bios flash got screwed up. board is basically dead now unless it has a recovery feature of some kind or a socketed bios chip that you can replace with a correctly programmed chip.

Seagate 80 GB 7200.7 (Replacing a WD caviar 18GB IDE66)
Chieftec dragon DX-01BD-U (Replacing a no-name case w/ a 100W "evergreat" PSU)
LiteOn LTR-52237S

I am reusing her:

Pioneer DVD104S
Leadtek Winfast S320 II Ultra (TNT2 ultra 32mb)

I think that will last her for some years!!
